Similar to Marcel Duchamp’s The Fountain, Jacques Tati understands how to repurpose architecture and furniture, unlocking something new all for a comedic punch, while also retaining the original creation’s sense of ingenuity and inventiveness. Gags such as Greek columns being used as trash bins, or chairs flipped upside down so that drunk patrons don’t fall over, or even the way windows are filmed, there’s tons to look out for on multiple rewatches. Duchamp would have loved this film.
