Deadpool & Wolverine

On its own Deadpool and Wolverine is probably a 3 to 3.5 out of 5 star film. It’s fun, does a great job handling the character of Wolverine/Logan, and is probably the most interesting multiverse film from the modern “MCU” era (and multiverse films are so tedious and plain to watch).

For Gambit alone it’s 4/5— if only there was more Gambit, then my life would complete. I want a full Gambit film and a Channing Tatum one at that because I think he did a great job, plus it is well established how passionate he’s been about bringing Gambit film to light.

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine. No one can do a Logan live action better! The Henry Cavill Wolverine variant honestly just made me cringe. It’s like when people suggest Cavill as the live action Aegon the Conqueror from Fire & Blood/A Song of Ice and Fire. That is not Logan nor Aegon TC! You nerds just have a huge crush on him.

They’ve officially MCU-ed Deadpool 💔 I obviously still enjoyed the film but man modern Marvel really just fumbles the bag every time, at least a little bit. Multiverse movies also just kinda suck. Derivative and lacking consequence (what is done can always be undone).

Plus, an overpowered but plain and forgettable antagonist is kind of damning for a superhero film. I’m so geeked about Gambit and love seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine so much that it ensured I can still enjoy this movie a lot but there are plenty of flaws that make me a bit sad because I believe this could have been better.
