my favorites change!
animation is a medium not a genre
one of the most misunderstood and disrespected works of the decade so far (ik it’s beloved by film buffs, but…). this is genuinely a masterpiece that needs to be released in theaters every year on the best screens. everyone is at their peak here: peele, kaluuya, palmer, composer michael abels and especially cinematographer hoyte van hoytema. not mentioning brandon perea because I’m manifesting an amazing role for him soon.
no matter how many times I watch this, I sit at attention during the last 30 minutes.
if I wanted to watch a two white cishets’ marriage fall apart I would just film my parents
Wicked (Part 1) has a lot of the same flaws as the musical, but those same flaws are why it has such mass appeal. The story is a bit generic and there’s not a ton of development going from one place to the next. Storylines are dropped for a while, and the pacing is pretty quick. But, like the musical, that’s made up for by the wonderful lead performances and music.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are the perfect leads…
