Getting to experience this movie opening night in 1999 with a packed audience was truly a remarkable event. 25 years later, it remains the apex of found footage horror. Nothing has knocked it from its pedestal. I was struck this viewing about how prescient the narrative is about perpetually filming oneself, even to great detriment. Given the pervasive, widespread nature of “always being on” for social media now, it seems in some ways that Heather and The Blair Witch Project were the harbingers of the 21st century.
