the coolest film i’ve ever seen. it’s not as smooth as the prequel but even more hyper-stylized and visually enticing. wkw made use of the same elements that were seen in chungking but everything is in stark contrast to further noir ideas.
genuinely loved his camera work in this film, which uses a wide angle lens to give the impression of a fish-eye lens. this, in my opinion, demonstrates the distorted view of the world…

a brighter summer day sways back and forth between two extremes—calmness and mayhem, tenderness and cruelty—before leaning decisively in one direction or the other. chiaroscuro nights tucked between soft pastel days, it resides in a transitory realm that isn't quite one thing, nor quite the other, and that atmosphere permeates every aspect of this film.
