Andy Young’s review published on Letterboxd:
“Is this from the chronicles, or real life?”
“I don’t know.”
When I lived in Burbank, every few months this one guy would buy a bus ad or billboard trying to get people to read their screenplay. It was usually plain black text on white, with a grainy MacBook camera photo of themselves. I’d always feel a smug pity every time I passed it; It takes a special mix of delusion, naïveté and grandeur to execute this, let alone think it will work.
Enter Paul T Goldman, a man with a story so insane you can’t make it up - even though he mostly did. But like my Burbank nemesis these random craigslisters never go anywhere passed self publishing on Amazon. Enter Jason Woliner.
Equal parts Speed Levitch and Tommy Wiseau, Paul is such a fascinating character that can quickly get on your nerves but you also can’t look away from. My wife always felt bad for laughing throughout the show because she said it felt like she was teasing him. Lord knows Paul’s put up with a lot of mocking in his life. But you’ve got to give him this: he’s persistent. And it takes a special mix of delusion, naïveté and grandeur to work in this industry.
“It’s amazing to see your life up on screen. Even if it’s not flattering.”
