Stir of Echoes 1999
This was more a mystery rather than horror. The aggressive nature of the storytelling is definitely to my liking, everything that could be used or even abused to advance the plot happened, masterfully. The performances are great, especially the child actor; I know Stanley Kubrick would've killed to cast him in The Shining.

Ethan Hawke’s voice can now be considered the best sound in Hollywood. It gives the character he plays all the right tones. The best thing about The Good Lord Bird is the raw dark humor it fashions, especially the opening sequence when John Brown tries to save Onion and his dad. The damnest thing just happened! the movie starts and it runs right up to the shot where the girl screams, I talk to myself in my head, saying "that's a bad scream", then suddenly, I hear the exact words I was thinking, It was spooky!
I kinda feel embarrassed that I watched this movie after all these years, and all my friends should be embarrassed for never talking about it with me, shame on them. -
