A fantastic, thoughtful and very adult film that ticks all the boxes of a neo-noir in disguise. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I was moved by it at times. I think it might have reignited my love of noir cinema.
It’s an essentially European film made in the US and it tonally works quite well. The story is more so fable-like and it requires an elevated credibility. Both Tilda and Julianne are at the top of their game, and I thought the latter put on such a relatable character in terms of personality. They were both wonderful. It’s such a intentioned film. All the choices mean something and are perfect.
It does however walk a fine line between being effectively very effective or perhaps not so effective in that it’s a film about privileged people for privileged people made by privileged people.
