Dark City 1998
"I feel like I'm living out someone else's nightmare. "
Watched the Theatrical Cut with the opening narration that spoils everything. At first I thought "not that bad I guess " until all the twists happened and it's like we saw that already!!! #killallstudioexecs
Still loved it despite all that. Alex Proyas isnt a perfect filmmaker but he's perfect at two things. The most well designed vast spiraling city sets you'll ever see in anything and on screen expressions of…

The Hitcher 1986
insanely good, love the air of surrealism which combines so well with the popping soundtrack. beautifully shot and performed fantastically by the two leads. also picked up major NEAR DARK vibes from this and out of vague curiosity checked out the writer (Eric Red), who did in fact co-write it!!! my mind.
beautiful homoerotic thrill ride of a movie. crazy levels of yearning and it's kind of surprising how boldly it's portrayed by Rutger Hauer who plays his character with so much intimacy. yup!!!!!

Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In 2024
every movie should follow the basic structure of 20 minute police story riff > hour of subdued politics and character drama > reveal every character has superpowers (?) > boss fight against conniving triad leader “Mr Big”

The Night of the Hunter 1955
The Night of the Hunter was reputed to be ya know. One of those groundbreaking horror masterpieces that predate the tropes.
Some might not call it horror but it absolutely is.
It's part fairy-tale when it wants to be.
An incredibly sad story, but a story worth viewing.

Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell 1974
Only 6 years had passed since Cushing’s last outing as the Baron, yet in that time, due to the passing of his beloved wife, he’s aged a lifetime. His face, already gaunt and wistful, has had all its skeletal properties exacerbated, and there seems to be a quality of tremendous regret in his performance that was theretofore unseen. There’s a terrible sadness looming over the entire picture for its first two acts. For 16 years, Fisher and Cushing have been…

Larceny, Inc. 1942
It's not exactly a hot take to draw parallels between Edward G. Robinson and James Cagney. They're both tiny, dynamic actors who were typecast as gangsters but who, in reality, could do almost anything on screen. They also both have very specific kinds of charisma, but whereas Cagney's is all about intense one-on-one engagement and an almost dangerous allure, Robinson's is somehow both broader and more room-sized and, also, softer, more intimate.
And this aspect of Robinson's prodigious talent is…

Emilia Pérez 2024
First of all: IJBOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
Now that that's out of my system, let me tear a little bit into this horrendous fucking movie. It makes so much sense that the cis critics at Cannes lauded this racist and transphobic piece of shit, a movie so beyond stupid that it doesn't work as a crime thriller, as a musical, as a melodrama, as a Trans™ movie, as a movie about Mexico. It will most definitely be the worst movie nominated at the…
