You know, I had a lot of ideas about how this film would play out and its overall theme, but it turns out I was pretty wrong on both fronts.

Given that this is Deadpool and Wolverine's first introduction into the MCU, I expected it to be an MCU movie full of MCU cameos, and yet, it wasn't (with the exception of Happy and Hulk). Contrary to what Deadpool may say, this film is not about changing the hierarchy of the MCU but rather a celebration of all of the 20th Century Fox Marvel films that came before it.

After Wade and Logan are first dumped into the void, they encounter a cameo character played by Chris Evans. Wade immediately says what we're all thinking. He calls him Captain America. And of course, we assume it is Captain America, it's one of Chris' most famous roles, but then we hear two words that we haven't heard from him in a long time:

"Flame on!"

The film purposefully leans into our expectations of what this film is just so that it can completely blindside us. It made us wonder about a possible Iron Man cameo, it tricked us with a possible Captain America cameo, and it lulled us into believing all of this with a Hulk cameo. All of this was meant to break down our prior beliefs in an effort to allow us to see the big picture: Yes, this is Deadpool and Wolverine's introduction into the MCU, but it is also the end of the Fox universe.

I think there's a large reason that one of the guiding forces for characters like Blade, Elektra, and Gambit in this film is the sense that they never had the chance to shine like other heroes and to save those around them. With how big the MCU became, many of these older films faded away. They're not talked about even though they helped to lay the groundwork for the MCU. Deadpool & Wolverine is a film all about preserving the legacy of these characters and their films (unless you are Gambit, then it's just the memory of a film that never was). And I really like that.

Shoutout to those awesome parents who brought their three year old to see Deadpool & Wolverine, I bet they loved it.

After having watched Deadpool & Wolverine, my last four watched are just Deadpool-related media. Who should I return my Filmbro card to? I'm no longer worthy of it.

Yeah, it's not a perfect film, but man, did it have me smiling. It's violent, raunchy, stupid, and all around non-sensical. It's everything I could have hoped for out of a Deadpool movie.

There are definitely some issues I had with it. It's a lot longer than it needs to be, way too CGI-heavy at times, and has a plot that feels way too bloated with a lot of unnecessary things.

But you know, I'm happy with it, and that's all that matters.
