David’s review published on Letterboxd:
Okuno crafts terrific atmosphere and tension without bludgeoning the viewer with the thematics. The ending is mostly what you’d expect with a small twist that brings home the film’s point. You think “the big strong man” is gonna save the day when all hope is lost but, nah, this is her story and her ending. A film that subtly reclaims the narrative of “woman is overreacting” and “crazy” when no one else can see what she sees. Those films never seem to openly suggest that she’s justly paranoid and, in fact, right about what’s happening to her. Okuno gives the protagonist that power back. You really can’t fault this movie, as it’s competently directed and shot with small subversions to the formula, but it’s clearly stretched a tad too thin.
