    ★★★★½

there’s a lot of reasons to give VOLCANO a try. not only for its fun concept assembled with originality, but in execution — while some segments are, as expected, stronger than others music-wise, choreography-wise or even just in terms of general mise en scène — each music video (each one in one take!!) is carried on with amazing choreography and coordination both from the dancers as well as the camera, lighting and crew, requiring an amount of preparation, investment and…

as one of the great staples of folk horror, i feel a bit disheartened that i wasn't that into it as i was expecting. an increasingly foreboding experience, we're introduced to a seemingly idyllic and picturesque community taunting howie, the main character, with sham chases — the reversal of roles where the assumed normalcy and status quo instead takes the archetype of the interloper, persuasive and compelling to no other character present.

the conspiracy, the farse, and feeling of entrapment,…

    is that all there is?

loved revisiting this film! i had no doubt in my mind that it would hold up as well as it did from when i first saw it (not that long ago, but still...)

it develops such a peculiar atmosphere that once you see it you easily compare to similar films — those different sequences of events that set off an ironic chain of reactions, making a city feel so claustrophobic — populated by its surreal characters and settings that are fueled by its misunderstandings (worthy of being a synopsis for a dream)

FKA twigs: THE BODY IS ART

this album truly can't come soon enough 🧡

(also from intro to outro room of fools scratches my brain in all the right places but we'll see if it ends up becoming my favorite or not)

    ★★★½

still have to manage to articulate my thoughts on this film, especially when it comes to the nuances of the characters, how they're shaped by faith and prejudice.

on a technical level, i marveled at the editing, the shots that even though they might seem simple, its through montages that you glimpse at their complexity, carrying the statement that it all passes, framing the theme whether through the cyclical nature of a day passing and its shape on a static…

    See Know Evil

    ★★½

there's a weird lack of depth about who davide really was and his creative process, at the same time every person that's interviewed raves on about him. for such an unique footprint on artistic styles, this kind of formulaic documentary doesn't really seem to suit davide. it feels like it tries to dodge a much more effective analysis and storytelling about his impact. i should've known better and predicted that they would overuse the angle of his condition — i…
