a horror movie that good that you forget for sometime that's a horror movie you're watching but it constantly reminds you that underneath all that disturbing visuals and shocking details you are just witnessing some humans going through and processing all the years of mental anguish greif pain resentment. as the title fittingly suggests that it's a story of mental sickness and most importantly trauma passed down generation after generation and in the end the trauma and mental anguish is transferred to the audience.
Ari Aster really must be part of a cult himself or just batshit crazy as he deliveres films like midsommar and hereditary which includes of weird shit ofc but nudity nonsensical rituals and disturbing visuals ofc. but it's not just about that as they have a basic or good plot in them.
midsommar was highly gross and vile but hereditary feels more personal as it's a story about generational trauma and mental anguish and ofc fucked up families something unfortunately we can all relate to.
it's a scary film ofc especially in its moments but throughout gives eerie gut wrenching vibe but grounded plot of a family dealing with trauma mental anguish and grief but despite being a supernatural horror it's so humane.
how tf Toni Collette didn't even got a oscar nomination lol. always have been a fan of her with her diverse roles but she clearly shows her insane acting with this insane part.
one of the best horror films definitely. a masterpiece ✨.
