They stole his identity and exploited it to gather additional information from his connections. He had been using the same password across all his accounts, including his banking credentials, which exacerbated the situation.

This incident served as a valuable opportunity to educate my children about the intricacies of the digital realm and underscored the critical significance of cybersecurity. It’s essential to safeguard our online presence and adopt secure practices to protect our personal information.

Cybersecurity is a necessity in today’s world. Here are my top three cybersecurity tips to help protect your personal and sensitive information:

• Create passwords that are at least 14 characters long.
• Combine uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols.
• Make it something easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess.

• MFA adds an additional layer of security.
• When logging into your account, you’ll need an authentication code from a text message (or another method) in addition to your password.

Tip 3: Think Before You Click: 

• Increase your phishing awareness.
• Scrutinize all incoming and unsolicited emails before clicking any links or downloading attachments.
• By doing so, you’ll make yourself more resistant to phishing attacks.
