Attalea merupakan salah satu genus tumbuhan terbesar di kawasan tropis benua Amerika. Attalea ditemukan di sepanjang meksiko hingga ke Bolivia dan Paraguay. Pegunungan Andes hingga ke pantai timur Brasil merupakan tempat distribusi Attaalea [1] Ciri khas dari genus Attalea adalah bentuk keseluruhan daun dalam tiap tangkai selalu berbeda.[2] Peningkatan jumlah benih juga menjadi salah satu karakteristik Attalea.[3] Spesies Attalea sanga sulit untuk diidentifikasi secara lengkap. Sebagian besar anggota spesiesnya memiliki daun yang besar, berbunga, dan berbuah, serta beberapa karakteristik fenologi juga hanya muncul pada musim tertentu.[4]
