Musulmi mutum ne wato mabiyin dokokin musulunci, addinin kaɗaita Allah. Musulmai suna amfani da alƙur,''ani wanda ya zo ta hanyar manzon Allah (SAW) a matsayin littafi mai tsarki.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Musulmai suna da garin da suke zuwa domin yin ibada ta hajji da umra. Musulmai (Larabci: المسلمون‎, al-Muslimūn, transl. "Masu mika wuya [ga Allah]")[11] mutane ne da suka yi riko da Musulunci, addinin tauhidi da ke cikin addinin annabi Ibrahim(AS). Suna ɗaukan Alƙur'ani, tushen nassin addini na Islama, a matsayin kalmar Allah (ko Allah) a zahiri kamar yadda aka saukar wa Muhammad (S A W)babban annabin Musulunci.[12] Yawancin Musulmai kuma suna bin koyarwa da ayyukan Muhammadu (S A W) (sunnah) kamar yadda aka rubuta a cikin (hadisi).[13] Tare da kiyasin yawan jama'a na kusan mabiya biliyan 2 kamar yadda 1 ga Janairu 2023 kiyasin shekara, Musulmai sun ƙunshi fiye da kashi 25% na yawan al'ummar duniya.[14]

A cikin tsari mai saukowa, adadin mutanen da suka bayyana a matsayin musulmi a kowace nahiya suna tsaye a: 45% na Afirka, 25% na Asiya da Oceania (a dunkule),[15] 6% na Turai,[16] da 1 % na Amurka.[17][18][19][20] Bugu da ƙari, a cikin yankuna masu rarrafe, adadi yana tsaye a: 91% na Gabas ta Tsakiya – Arewacin Afirka,[21][22][23] 90% na Asiya ta Tsakiya,[24][25][26] 65% na Caucasus,[27][28][29][30][31][32] 42% na kudu maso gabashin Asiya,[33][34] 32% na Kudancin Asiya,[35][36] da 42% na sub Saharar Afirka.[37][38]

Duk da yake akwai makarantu da rassa na Islama da yawa, ƙungiyoyin biyu mafi girma sune Islaman Sunni (75-90% na dukkan musulmi)[39] da Shi'a Islam (10-20% na dukkan musulmi).[40] Bisa ƙididdige ƙididdiga, Kudancin Asiya ne ke da kaso mafi girma (31%) na al'ummar Musulmi na duniya, musamman a cikin ƙasashe uku: Pakistan, Indiya, da Bangladesh.[41][42] Ta ƙasa, Indonesiya ita ce mafi girma a duniyar musulmi, tana da kusan kashi 12% na dukkan musulmin duniya;[43] a wajen ƙasashen musulmi, Indiya da China su ne gida mafi girma (11%) da na biyu mafi girma (2%) yawan al'ummar musulmi, bi da bi.[44][45][46] Saboda karuwar al'ummar musulmi, Musulunci shine addini mafi girma a duniya.[47][48][49]

Kalmar Muslim (Larabci: مسلم‎ shi ne mahallin aiki na wannan fi'ili wanda musulunci shine kalmar fi'ili, dangane da SLM na triliteral "don zama cikakke".[50] [51] Mace mace ita kuma musulma ce (Larabci: مسلمة‎) (kuma an fassara shi da "Muslimah" [52]). Jam'i a Larabci shine muslimūn (مسلمون) ko Muslimin (مسلمين), kuma kwatankwacinsa na mata shine muslimāt (مسلمات).

Kalma ta yau da kullun a hausa ita ce "Musulmi". A cikin ƙarni na 20, rubutun da aka fi so a Turanci shine "Muslim", amma yanzu wannan ya fada cikin rashin amfani.[53]  Kalmar Mosalman (Persian, madadin Mussalman) daidai yake da musulmi da ake amfani da su a Tsakiya da Kudancin Asiya.

A cikin Ingilishi wani lokaci ana rubuta shi Mussulman kuma ya zama tsoho a cikin amfani. Har zuwa aƙalla tsakiyar 1960s, yawancin marubutan Ingilishi sun yi amfani da kalmar Mohammedans ko Mahometans.[54] Ko da yake ba lallai ba ne a yi nufin irin waɗannan sharuɗɗan da za a yi amfani da su ba, Musulmai suna jayayya cewa sharuɗɗan ba su da kyau domin ana zargin cewa Musulmai suna bauta wa Muhammadu maimakon Allah.[55] Sauran sharuddan da aka daina amfani da su sun haɗa da musulmi[56] da musulmi.[57] A Turai ta Tsakiya, an fi kiran Musulmai Saracens.
