At 01:30am on Halloween night, Raffaele Minichiello, dressed in camouflage, stepped on to the plane, a $15.50 ticket from Los Angeles to San Francisco in his hand.
This was the last stop on Trans World Airlines flight 85's journey across the US, which had started several hours earlier in Baltimore before landing at St Louis and then Kansas City.
At 01:30 on Friday, 31 October 1969, TWA flight 85 left Los Angeles for San Francisco. Fifteen minutes into the flight, the hijacking began.
I'm John Dodson and come with me on this story of the world's longest hijacking.

Herb Baumeister: Part 1: Who is Brian Smart?

Herbert Richard Baumeister was an American businessman and suspected serial killer. A resident of the Indianapolis suburb of Westfield, Indiana, Baumeister was under investigation for murdering over a dozen men in the early 1990s, most of whom were last seen at gay bars. Police found the remains of eleven people, eight identified, on Baumeister's property. Baumeister committed suicide after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was later linked to a series of murders of at least twelve men along Interstate 70, which occurred in the early to mid-1980s.
