Teen killed in Maryland high school shooting; suspect in custody

A teen was killed and a suspect is in custody after a shooting ata Maryland high school Friday afternoon.

Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said Joppatowne High School's resource officer and principal responded to a fight in the first floor bathroom at the school.

Gahler said a weapon was fired and struck the victim.

The suspect, a 16-year-old, fled the bathroom and the school, but was later put in police custody.

The victim, 15-year-old Warren Curtis Grant, was airlifted to a nearby trauma center and has since been pronounced dead.

Gahler says the teen will be charged in this incident and the investigation is ongoing.

Harford County Public Schools sent an email to all Joppatowne High School families and the community.

This is an important message for our Joppatowne High School community. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office has responded to the school for an isolated incident on campus today. There was a fight on campus to known parties. A weapon was brought onto campus and used in the incident. The HCSO and HCPS are working together to get this information to you. Please continue to follow the HCSO Facebook page for updates on their investigation.

The gun from the incident has not been found yet.
