Is it noisy in the evening? A review from when it opened mentioned pumping EDM. I'm looking for a place to chat with my friends while we nosh.
A:
There was no pumping EDM when my friend and I went. We were seated next to each other at the bar and had no difficulty having a conversation during a rather busy dinner service.

At first entrance the hostesses was a bit rude and short. Not the best hospitality here. The server was ok.
However the food was great! I got the omelette and paratha from the brunch menu and it was very tasty. There were some veggies and other things in the omelette and the paratha was buttery and flakey. Their brunch menu looks better than their normal menu. I was going to get the masala fries if the omelette didn't fill me up but the omelette is pretty hefty. My wife got the dosa and she said it was really good! She even wanted to come back the next day.
We got the avocado raita on the side. But it came with a ton of pomegranate on top which we had to scoop aside. We also got a side of rice and the side portion of it was big.
It's in a fun neighborhood right by Union Square. The atmosphere inside was festive and fun. There were a lot of Indians eating there too which was a good sign that the food is kinda authentic.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kalei R.New York, United States2213424 Oct 2024
Love the inside! Food was very tasty though a bit spicy for me but I'm bad with spice. Kulcha is amazing and so cheesy. I do wish the butter chicken had a little more chicken in it, it was maybe 3 chunks.
The service was also amazing! They gave us complimentary gulab jamun which was delicious.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 14 Oct 2024
This is a great Indian restaurant with beautiful decor and an inviting atmosphere. We had a reservation for Saturday evening, and the place was lively and bustling. For appetizers, we shared the AMRITSARI CHOLE TIKKI and the sizzler platter which included grilled lamb chops, mutton seekh kebab, tiger prawns, salmon tikka, and chicken tikka - everything was flavorful and perfectly cooked.
For the main course, we enjoyed the ACHARI CHICKEN and BUTTER CHICKEN with garlic naan. Every dish was delicious, but the achari chicken stood out as my personal favorite. The service was exceptional, with the chef even taking the time to visit our table and ensure everything was to our liking.
It was a fantastic experience overall, and I look forward to returning to try more of their menu. Highly recommend it!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 9 Oct 2024Updated review2 check-ins
Everything from my prior review holds true. This is a classy, trendy restaurant in a fancy part of Manhattan. But they remain down to earth and accessible. This time I showed up in actual business casual, but was treated as equally important as any other person. And this time, since it was a Monday, I did have a reservation.
I showed up at 5:30 for a 5:45 reservation. Restaurant opens at 5 PM. I was the first person on site. Again, the hostess was stylish, cool, and collected. I was seated immediately.
Once seated, I was immediately greeted by a couple of different people, including my server, Susie/Suzie. She was attentive, on-top-of-it, and she gave great recommendations.
I've been here before and had a lot of great dishes and drinks . . . so she had her work cut out for her.
This time, I had to go with a previous favorite--the moist, fall apart, exquisitely seasoned salmon. I adored the cauliflower last time, but in place of that, I asked Susie/Suzie to choose a dish for me. She hit it out of the park with the "amritsari chole tikki," an amazing amalgam of crispy potato fritters (similar to potato paneer cakes, not quite aloo pakora), curried chickpea, green apple, and tamarind. A savory, rich, almost chili like concoction, topped with crisp freshness.
I finally had the Himalayan morels ($36). Wild mushrooms and chives. Again, rich, savory, decedent. But this time, as opposed to the Achari chicken I had last time, is vegan.
I, again, had several cocktails with complex, deep flavors. None too heavy, none too sweet, too sugary, or too filling.
As previously stated, Gupshup is a classy, elevated, yet accommodating spot, with spicy, saucy, tasty dishes. So many flavors--pickles, green apple, mustard, onion, wasabi, jackfruit, tamarind, chili honey, mango. While also honoring staples like garlic naan (smelled heavenly at the next table), biryani with saffron, various forms of goat, various chutneys, and more . . .Helpful 10Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 022 Feb 2024Previous reviewFirst, let's talk about MY NEW YORK again. GupShup is a popular place in Gramercy, especially for brunch. If you look online, you get the impression it's a pretty bougie place. Resy and OpenTable may show that there are no tables/reservations available (that's what happened to me). I wondered if I would be accepted as I ran from the train at Grand Central, in hospital scrubs, without a reservation.
I was flooded with relief as I showed up at around 6:30 PM, in scrubs, and the hostess was super chill and seated me immediately (with multiple choices for tables vs. the bar). And to top it all, the hostess was so rad--dressed in a casual, yet stylish way. She made you feel super cool for being there.
I feel like my server must have been a manager filling in--she was wearing more formal attire and a jacket--but no matter what, I felt taken care of. I also had multiple support staff stop by my table and check on me.
I started with a couple of small plates. The tandoori cauliflower--a spicy, light number blessed with mustard, onion, ginger, honey, and cilantro. It was full of flavor, I loved it.
I also had the salmon tikka, composed of char-grilled salmon, tikka, cream cheese, dill and yogurt sauce, crisp salmon skin, and sea bean. The salmon was fall-apart tender, and the yogurt sauce did nothing but enhance flavor.
For my main, I went with the staff recommendation of achari chicken, which is comprised of chicken tikka morsel, pickled sauce, and fennel. This is a very rich, spice-laden dish. If I compared it to an American staple, I would say this is like an Indian chicken chili. It was so rich, thick, savory, and overflowing with taste.
I followed up with desert--the carrot halwa a la mode. This is a homemade gajar halwa with ice cream from caffe panna (a New York phenomenon that I have yet to visit). Delectable!
I had a couple of cocktails while dining. The dirty pineapple, which consists of Casco Viejo tequila, garem masala washed pineapple, hibiscus, and lime. This was savory and pleasant. My favorite drink, of which I had two, was the Nagpur Orange, made with rosaluna mezcal, pamplemousse liquor, blood orange cordial, lime, and spicewala salt rim. It was so light, refreshing, and delicious!
Next time, I want to try a few more cocktails and the Himalayan morels. I'd like to check out the brunch too.
This Bombay House is wicked cool place. I'll be returning. - Saira S.Irvine, United States901882365 Nov 2024
Ambiance is fine dining with beauitful lights up for Diwali! Service is friendly and above average but food is very average. Butter chicken wings and the onion cheese chili kulcha were my favorite dishes there! Dahi puri is just overly filled with plain yogurt and butter chicken was tasteless with large chunks of chicken. I am south asian so I expect a lot of flavor and/or spice.

Dining at GupShup during Restaurant Week was a delightful experience that surpassed expectations. For $60, we enjoyed a three-course dinner that showcased the restaurant's ability to blend traditional flavors with modern presentation.
Our meal began with the butter chicken wings, a standout starter that was both flavorful and perfectly cooked. The wings were generously coated in a rich, buttery sauce that had just the right amount of spice, setting the tone for the rest of the meal.
For the main course, we opted for the butter chicken paired with garlic naan. The butter chicken was a masterclass in balancing complex spices and creamy textures. Each bite was a testament to the chef's skill, with the rich, aromatic flavors coming through beautifully. The garlic naan was the ideal accompaniment, with its warm, fluffy texture and subtle garlic notes complementing the dish perfectly.
Dessert was a crowning glory with the Gulab Jamun. This classic Indian sweet was executed with finesse--neither overly sweet nor heavy, it provided a balanced and satisfying end to the meal.
The restaurant's ambiance was as impressive as the food. The space was beautifully designed, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that enhanced the overall dining experience. Additionally, the staff were attentive and professional, adding to the positive impression.
In summary, GupShup delivered an exceptional dining experience with a menu that highlighted both the richness of traditional flavors and the finesse of modern culinary techniques. The combination of excellent food, attentive service, and a beautiful setting makes it a standout choice for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable meal.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 21 Jul 2024
Outstanding food, quick service, and portions were perfect! The butter chicken is a must!!! The Srilankan Jackfruit curry was a pleasant surprise, the kofta was stuffed with sweet jackfruit which complemented the savory curry like yin and yang.
The drinks were average, I would say get the Paan Pe Raag over Hot like Kohli.
Highlight of our meal was definitely the desserts - both the Kulfi Falooda and the Lychee Rabdi were excellent and presented beautifully.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 6 Oct 2024
Loved the Bollywood music and the aesthetic of the restaurant. So pretty on the first floor. The food was really good, we ordered multiple apps. The drinks were good too. Overall good experience but a tad on the $$ side. The service was quick and friendly.

We originally booked to be seated outside, but it got chilly, so we asked them to seat us inside and they were very flexible about it. Great service, they were friendly and gave us recommendations. The inside is very aesthetic, nice set up. The menu has so many options, the food was really good. We went for dinner, but I would come back for brunch one day!

Gupshup is a great addition to the growing Indian food scene in NYC! The ambiance is gorgeous transports you to India and you get art around is really pretty! The food is enjoyable and flavorful. Would definitely recommend the dal and butter chicken. But sometimes dining here the food comes lukewarm/cold which takes away from the experience. The staff isn't the friendliest and it's more a rush job sometimes which I did not enjoy. It's a coin toss on service and if your food will be hot. But it can be an off day or staff being overwhelmed.
