Borrowed from Malay jeruk, from Javanese ꦗꦼꦫꦸꦏ꧀ (jeruk), from Old Javanese jruk, probably from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kruuc ~ *kruəc (citrus). Compare Khmer ក្រូច (krouc, citrus fruit, orange) and Thai กรูด (grùut).
