Etymology

Borrowed from Polish linia or German Linie, from Latin līnea (“line, thread”), from līnum (“flax”), from Proto-Indo-European *līno-. From the same Indo-European root derives лён (ljon, “flax”) (< *lьnъ (“flax”)).
