Hello, Simplya.04! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals. Pashley (talk) 21:53, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism?

[edit]

Can you explain this edit, please? Did someone hack your account? Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:51, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, it was me. I had to delete my contribution because it was part of a university project. I didn't know I needed their permission and corrections before publishing. I will republish everything on monday evening or tuesday, as soon as they approve it. Simplya.04 (talk) 16:57, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You mean you copied stuff from a copyright, all rights reserved site without even crediting it? That's absolutely a no-no and not only violates copyright but also violates this site's Wikivoyage:Copyleft policy. Please let us know immediately if they refuse permission, because then the article will have to be not merely blanked but deleted. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:08, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
No, no: I personally translated things and added what was lacking from the page in Italian, because that was the aim of the project. I just need them to approve my translation on Monday, so that I can be sure that everything is okay.
I did what I did just to be surer. The work is now in my sandbox, where it should have been from the start, but I can anyway repost it if having cancelled is a problem.
It was my work. Simplya.04 (talk) 17:13, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK, this is confusing, but if there's no copyright issue, their approving or disapproving your work for an assignment doesn't have anything to do with Wikivoyage, and the existence of information on this site shouldn't be held hostage by something off-line (and the deletions actually do constitute vandalism, even though that's not your intent). Can you give a good reason why we shouldn't revert the deletions again? Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:33, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, in this case I will republish now. You're right, there's no reason. Tell me if there is any problem. Simplya.04 (talk) 17:39, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, dome there are only some listings left, and I Will take care of it this evening. Excuse me again for the inconvenient. Simplya.04 (talk) 18:59, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Okay, done.
Simplya.04 (talk) 18:59, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Why are you using Italian-language listing templates that don't work on this site now? I don't get it. I'd like to revert to the status quo ante. Do you know how to revert edits? Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:10, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I used the small city template and overall tried to translate the Italian page at my best. I apologize for any mistakes. I'm a beginner. I think you can just edit full page anyway if there's something you'd like to change. I don't know how to revert. Simplya.04 (talk) 19:13, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you anyway tell me where to find structure of the English listing? I will try now myself to find it Simplya.04 (talk) 19:17, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You had English-language listing templates before. Please explain what you're doing. In answer to your question, though, see Wikivoyage:Listings. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:43, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've seen it. I think it is okay now. I adjusted the listing. Simplya.04 (talk) 20:15, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I probably made some mistakes because like i said i am a beginner. Now the listing seems alright. I can't translate some names, due to translating purposes. Simplya.04 (talk) 20:32, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I also inserted the permalink for license purposes, like they explained me, in the last publishing of the page. Let me know for any other problems. Simplya.04 (talk) 20:36, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Simplya.04, I've moved the page you created (Utente:Simplya.04/Sandbox) into your real sandbox (User:Simplya.04/Sandbox). Since "Utente" is an Italian word, not recognized in the English version, what you created was a "published article with a wierd name" :-)
Regarding the point about "crediting the source", what you have done in the sandbox is fine, but in the main article, I've added the Template:Translated in the discussion page of the article.
Let me know if you have any doubt. --Andyrom75 (talk) 07:19, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
okay, thank u so much, so do I have to do anything else? I've added credit on my behalf in the part called "oggetto" in the Italian version, I'm not sure I did well. Simplya.04 (talk) 08:29, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Or did you do that in my place? Simplya.04 (talk) 08:33, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
how can I add credit on behalf of user? Have to do it only on the published version? Simplya.04 (talk) 08:32, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Let me clarify better the licence and credit matter.
All the wiki-project use the https://creativecommons.org/ license (CC). In particular, Wikivoyage, use the CC BY SA 4.0. Take a look at this second link.
Briefly: you can use in Wikivoyage a copy, or a modified version, of a text that has been previously release on the public domain, or through a CC license (or equivalent), but you MUST give credit to who did the original job. How you do it? In many ways.
In the Italian version we copy the permalink of the wiki-source (or the URL of a NOT-wiki-source) and paste it on the Summary of the change that we are going to save. Repeating it for every change that imply a text copied from someone else.
In case you forget one single contribution, your contribution can be reverted once to eliminate the copyright violation, then you can revert it again to insert the proper credit.
In your case, you did multiple changes, mixed with the changes of another user, so to satisfy the licence need, I've added the above mentioned template in the talk page of the article. When I wrote "I did it on your behalf", I meant that I've just applied the template, but there is no reference to mine/your name.
Coming to your last question. The cleanest way to respect the CC BY SA licence is to add the source link on every single contribution, regardless if we are talking of a Sandbox or a published article. Because in this way, your Sandbox will be ready to be simply moved to its final published position.
Feel free to ask more questions if you have more doubts. Andyrom75 (talk) 11:22, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
okay, clear: so what do I have to do now? Is there something else I forgot? I saw that you inserted the Template for translation and did that job for the sandbox. Do I have to add in the summary the source link again and then publish for sandbox and published article? Simplya.04 (talk) 13:56, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, it was all so complicated, thank you so much! Simplya.04 (talk) 13:57, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
For source link you mean the Italian permalink? Simplya.04 (talk) 13:58, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
