Haderslev is a town in South Jutland, Denmark. It is situated deep in an East Jutland fjord on the Baltic coast, and emerged in the 1100s as a trading post.

Haderslev Cathedral

Haderslev was a prolific trading port for centuries and became a regional religious center in medieval times with its old cathedral dating back to the 1200s.

Today, Haderslev is a regional center for the Danish military and State administration, both very important local employers. Trade and industry is in decline, but agriculture and related food industry is still an important employer though; the two local estates of Nybøl and Gram Castle are major agricultural producers from the town's large hinterland.

• 1 Damparken. Pond park in the center of town. Pedalos for rent. If you are more adventurous, catch a boat from the park and tour the much larger adjacent pond of Haderslev Dam. (updated Jul 2024)

• 1 Haderslev Dam (In the southwest of Haderslev). Enjoy the beautiful and large pond of Haderslev Dam. Hop on a boat and take a roundtrip for one and a half hour. The boat stops at the lakeside restaurant Damende, a local hostel, and a lakeside picnic spot in Haderslev Dyrehave; a large deerpark woodland.

• 2 StreetDome ('Domen). Large street sport park on the harbour front. The skateboarding landscape also allows for rollerblading, scooting and BMX biking. Parkour, climbing sports, and bouldering is also practised here. Inspiring dome hall. Worth travelling for. (updated Jul 2024)

• 3 Kulturhuset Bispen (Bispen). Public house of culture in the center of town. Concerts, library, café, meeting point, handicrafts, and various cultural events. (updated Jul 2024)

Hiking

The countryside around Haderslev presents a number of beautiful, marked hiking trails.

• Tunneldalsstierne ('Domen). A lush naturehike in the tunnel valley that comprise Haderslev Fjord. The valley stretches from the town of Vojens, through Haderslev, and to the coast in the east for about 25 km, and presents four marked trails. 

• Camino Haderslev Næs. 106 km marked trail, visiting a total of nine churches in and around Haderslev. Embark on the whole route, or one of the nine sections..Maps can be bought at several spots, including Kulturhuset Bispen. 

Drink

• 1 Bar De Ville. Great local pub with live music on the weekends. Good selection of beers and other drinks and a "hyggelig" atmosphere with old-school furnishing. (updated Jul 2024)
• 2 Fuglsang. Fuglsang Brewery was the pride of Haderslev for more than a century and made excellent beer and soft drinks. The former family-owned brewery was sold to Royal Uni-Brew in 2021 and the production was moved to Odense on Funen. The Fuglsang recipes are the same though, and the beers can still be enjoyed in both Haderslev, and elsewhere in Denmark. (updated Jul 2024)
• Aarø Bryg. Craft beers from a local microbrewery on the island of Årø. The beers are made with local ingredients only, and flavoured with wild growing herbs and berries from Årø. • 3 Christiansfeld (13 km north of Haderslev, towards Kolding). Old historic town in yellow brick, founded in 1773 and administered by a Moravian religious order. Unique architecture and history. UNESCO World Heritage Site.  

• 4 Gram Slot, Slotsvej 54, 6510 Gram (Midway between Haderslev and Ribe). Gram Slot is a former Royal castle dating back to 1232. The countryside Estate is on private hands nowadays and is a major agricultural and food producer. Book a stay at the old castle, or make it a one-day excursion. Experience the old castle park and the romantic adjacent castle town with many old brick buildings. Gram Slotskro is an old Royal inn in the village, offering food and overnight stays since 1714.  

• 5 Årø (About 15 km east of Haderslev). Small island a few kilometres east of Haderslev in The Little Belt strait.
