The edit summary field, which appears under the text editor window, is used to notify other editors what the purpose of your edit is. All edits should include a summary of the purpose of the edit. In most cases I have been able to determine the purpose of your edits, but [https://en.wikiquote.org/w/index.php?title=Anna_Karenina&diff=2187584&oldid=2124311 this] edit I could not figure out. It looks like it was just whitespace removal, but the character count delta was -700, so something else was deleted.
