⭠ Last week's report

Heavy presence of two incredibly depressing subjects, death and the upcoming American election (not to mention a rape and murder), making the movies and a video game that appear a relief.

Rank Article Class Views Image Notes/about
Kamala Harris 2,232,813 The 2024 Democratic National Convention was held from August 19 to 22, a loud, boisterous convention with lots and lots of speeches. It's also where delegates selected the presidential nominee. Harris, the current Vice-President who was literally the only candidate, was selected.
Mike Lynch (businessman) 2,079,337 The British tech tycoon drowned on August 19 aged 59 after his superyacht Bayesian sank off the coast of Sicily during a violent storm. He had just been fully acquitted of fraud during an American criminal trial in June, a case where he had just a 0.5% chance of acquittal. Lynch's co-defendant in the trial, Stephen Chamberlain, had just been killed after being hit by a car whilst running on August 17.
Stree 2 1,468,938 This Bollywood comedy horror film released last week, has made ₹505 crore at the box office against a budget of ₹50 crore and already is the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 behind #16.
Alien: Romulus 1,294,533 The latest installment in the 45-year old franchise (#25) about slimy and particularly invasive extraterrestrials, announced at the 2019 CinemaCon and taking place between the first two films of the franchise, opened last week to positive reviews from critics and has grossed $129 million worldwide so far.
Alain Delon 1,269,691 An icon of French cinema, who worked for at least six decades (which included forays into Hollywood like Lost Command and Red Sun, plus playing Julius Caesar in Asterix at the Olympic Games), actor Alain Delon died at the age of 88 of B-cell lymphoma.
Tim Walz 1,187,274 #20 on last week’s report. #1 on the week before last week. You probably already know who he is: Kamala's VP pick. A slight boost in page views this week can be attributed to the DNC occurring this week, where Kamala and Walz were official locked in as the Democratic Party's nominees for the 2024 United States president election.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 1,175,853 The son of Robert F. Kennedy, Kennedy Jr. is an environmental lawyer and anti-vaxxer who ran for US president, but gave up on August 23 and endorsed Donald Trump due to dismal polling and campaign funds running out. He blamed his failed campaign on Democrats, and he could potentially have a position in Trump's administration if he wins.
Deadpool & Wolverine 1,111,265 The savior of the MCU, released a month ago has made $1.16 billion worldwide, and became the second-highest-grossing film of 2024 behind another Disney movie. It has now surpassed the Civil War to become the 8th highest grossing film in the franchise and is expected to surpass the original Avengers film soon.
Donald J. Harris 1,038,889 Kamala Harris's father. He is most likely the ninth-most viewed page on English Wikipedia because Elon Musk claimed that Kamala Harris's father is a “Marxist economist” in his live conversation with Donald Trump on X on August 12th and telling people to look it up if they don't believe him.
Deaths in 2024 998,439 Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe
Doug Emhoff 973,031 Kamala Harris's husband who spoke at the DNC. Really not much to say. People are clicking around on her Wikipedia article I presume.
Phil Donahue 905,807 An American TV personality best known for hosting The Phil Donahue Show for 27 years, who died at the age of 88. Non-Americans probably only know the name because Frank Drebin tried to pass as Donahue in Naked Gun 33 1/3.
Murder of Laci Peterson 895,557 In 2002, an eight-month old pregnant Laci Peterson disappeared, and her remains and those of her unborn son were found in the subsequent year. Her husband, Scott, who has always maintained innocence, was found guilty of double-murder and sentenced to death, later overturned to life imprisonment on appeal. Fast forward to 2024, a legal advocacy organization submitted new evidence to court that it said supported Scott's claims of innocence. This week, two documentaries on the case premiered: "American Murder: Laci Peterson" on Netflix, and Face to Face with Scott Peterson on Peacock.
Black Myth: Wukong 888,517 A video game released on August 20 based on the 16th century Chinese fantasy novel Journey to the West, a classic in Chinese literature. There was much hype surrdoing its release (it topped Steam's best-selling chart and smashed the Steam record for highest concurrent player count, a record previously held by Elden Ring) and has released to positive reception. The game gained noteriety when its developer, Game Science, was accused of being sexist by IGN in November 2023, and the game got even more noteriety when streamers were instructed to not mention "feminist propaganda", "quarantine", "COVID-19", and Chinese politics. These guidelines were made to comply with Chinese law. If the Chinese government doesn't appreciate things said about them they can take you away like they did with Jack Ma.
Maya Harris 821,118 Kamala Harris's sister who spoke at the DNC. Really not much to say. People are clicking around on her Wikipedia article I presume.
Kalki 2898 AD 719,956 Prime Video added to its catalogue this Tollywood post-apocalyptic movie where the reincarnation of Vishnu shows up in the 29th century (the woman to the left, Deepika Padukone, plays Kalki's mother), that in its theatrical run earlier this year became the fifth highest-grossing Indian film.
Ella Emhoff 672,680 Kamala Harris's step-daughter who spoke at the DNC. Really not much to say. People are clicking around on Kamala's Wikipedia article I presume.
2024 Kolkata rape and murder incident 613,381 The rape and murder of a trainee doctor in the Bengal region of India has had the Indian community up in protest. They are campaigning for better women's safety. Notably, the rape and murder occurred instead a campus building and yet there were no security cameras installed within the building and so the rape+murder was not even caught on camera.
Shyamala Gopalan 590,513 Kamala Harris's mother. Again, really not much to say. People are clicking around on Kamala's Wikipedia article I presume.
Marlo Thomas 569,544 #12's widow, an actress (mostly known for television, such as the show That Girl and playing Rachel Green's mother on Friends) who he married in 1980 and served as stepmother to his five children.
Judith Barsi 538,427 The Internet decided to remember the sad ending to All Dogs Go to Heaven, and the even sadder story of the voice actress in that scene: Judith Barsi was on the rise, particularly for voicing both that movie and The Land Before Time, but died at just 10 when her abusive father killed the whole family in a murder-suicide.
Bill Clinton 537,564 U.S. President #42 was one of the speakers at the DNC, with the centerpiece quote being "We've got a pretty clear choice it seems to me. Kamala Harris (#1), for the people. And the other guy who has proved, even more than the first go-around, that he's about me, myself and I," and his speech also remembering that complacency led to said first go-around at the expense of Clinton's wife, and questioning why the other guy mentions Hannibal Lecter so much.
Meena Harris 530,143 Kamala Harris's niece who spoke at the DNC, and yet another one of the multiple Kamala relatives listed in this week's top 25 report. I don't even know anymore.
Steve McNair 526,788 McNair was a National Football League quarterback who retired in 2008. In 2009, he was shot four times and killed, and his girlfriend shot herself next to him. The police ruled the case a murder–suicide. Like #13, Netflix released a documentary into his death this week.
Alien (franchise) 515,000 Keeping off one more article related to #1 is instead the source of #4, launched in 1979 with a sci-fi horror movie pitched as "Jaws in space" that made household names out of Sigourney Weaver, Ridley Scott and H. R. Giger - the last of whom designed that horrifying thing that is the franchise's namesake (also known as the Xenomorph). The franchise includes nine movies, plus comics, video games, and many crossovers, most famously with the Predator.
