The Fire Buck is a 1982 Ford C8000 model fire apparatus, with a Sanford Pumper series rear body that was created in Groveport, Ohio. This particular fire apparatus was converted into an Ohio State University (OSU) theme, mimicking that of an OSU football helmet in 2009. It is the first collegiate-themed fire apparatus to be privately owned by an individual in the United States and is used for tailgating, charitable events, parades and other events.

History

[edit]

The Fire Buck originally started out in service at the Mt. Clemens Fire Department in 1982. There it stayed in service, providing vital firefighting equipment to the people near the Lake St. Clair area, until it was sold in 2006. This fire apparatus was later purchased by Kevin's Lawn and Landscaping to be used as a water transportation vehicle for landscape installation. On October 5th, 2009 Kevin decided he had no further use of the truck and placed it up for auction on eBay Motors for $1,000.

The truck was brought back to the Columbus Ohio area on October 10th, 2009 and work began soon thereafter. Once converted into what would now be labeled 'The Fire Buck', it was unveiled in early July of 2010 and has been on display for every home game since that time.

Charity

The Fire Buck has been a part of charitable organizations since its inception in 2009. Since that time, The Fire Buck has donated time, services and/or money to the following organizations: AmfAR, JDRF, YPGluco, The Avrie Nelms Benefit
