Wrong Date
[edit]The Catholic Encyclopedia puts the timeframe at the 9th century, About 847 he appeared in France at the court of Charles the Bald. Not the date of 655A.D. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05519a.htm Celtic Harper 17:00, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Slight confusion, that's John Scotus Erigena that they are referring to, and we do indeed have him living in the 9th century. Probably it should be mentioned that this Eriugena is rather better known as Augustinus Hibernicus. There's a paper from Chronicon which deals with him here. Page move
[edit]Just reporting here that this article was previously at Augustine Eriugena, but seeing as this is a rare name at best, I took the liberty to move it to something more appropriate. Both "Augustinus Hibernicus" and "the Irish Augustine" are commonly attested (Pseudo-Augustine may be another, but potentially ambiguous variant). I thought "Irish Augustine" would look slightly odd without definite article, but if it appears to be a gratuitous addition in violation of WP guidelines, then feel free to move the article to "Irish Augustine". - Actually, forget all that. In hindsight I'd say that we only need to have an article for his claim to fame, De mirabilibus sacrae scripturae, and some redirects from the author's name : ) Cavila (talk) 12:40, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
