DescriptionSony XO-D20S Midi HiFi system (white bg).jpg
English: Sony XO-D20 / XO-D20S "Midi" system (all-in-one HiFi) from the late 1980s.
As with most 1980s "midi" systems, the all-in-one main unit (combining a record player, FM/MW/LW tuner, dual cassette deck and amplifier) is obviously designed to mimic the look of a system made up of separate components... but it's not(!)
This unit was bundled with a separate CD player (not shown in this version of the photo). However, by this time many other "midi" systems were already integrating a CD player into the main unit itself.
Once manufacturers started leaving out the bulky record player altogether in favour of the CD, "Midi"-sized hifis like this were mostly superseded by smaller "micro" systems in the early 90s. (And no, "midi" has nothing to do with the MIDI standard for musical instruments- don't ask me where the name came from!)
Remote control, speakers and bundled (but separate) CD player not shown. Purchased circa late 1988/early 1989.
