Description Back view of Saxony spinning wheel for wool at Herne Bay Museum and Gallery. The drive-band is missing, and the flyer and bobbin have been removed from the mother-of-all. The pulley is on the end of the flyer instead of its traditional position at the other end beyond the bobbin. There is no flax distaff, which means it was probably used for wool taken from a basket. On the floor is a wooden lazy kate for plying spun yarn: it holds spools of yarn that have been spun s-fashion and z-fashion for twisting together. The date is unknown, but the repairs are possibly from the 1950s spinning and weaving revival (arts movement).
