English: Eckartsau proclamation Magyar: Az első világháborús összeomlás napjaiban, 1918. október 21-én a Birodalmi Tanács (Reichsrat) német nyelvű képviselői megalakították az önálló német-ausztriai állam ideiglenes nemzetgyűlését. Nyomásukra I. Károly november 11-i nyilatkozatában lemondott az államügyekben való részvételről, s kijelentette, hogy elfogad minden államformát érintő döntést. „Adler köztársaságot sürgetett, a keresztényszociálisok monarchiát, a németnemzetiek a Német Birodalomhoz csatlakozást” – jegyezte fel naplójába Redlich, a történész-pénzügyminiszter. Az ideiglenes nemzetgyűlésben a köztársasági irányzat erősödött meg, mert az új nemzetállamok még a laza föderális kapcsolatot is elutasították Béccsel és a német nyelvű koronatartományokkal. Az ideiglenes nemzetgyűlés 1918. november 12-én kikiáltotta a Német-ausztriai
Köztársaságot (Republik Deutschösterreich), amely „a Német Köztársaság alkotó része.” Ezzel véget ért a Habsburg-uralom hosszú története. Másnap I. Károly az eckartsaui levélben lemondott trónjáról. |
