Hello Mccapra, I see that you have requested CSD U1 speedy deletion on User:Mccapra/1963 Attempted Coup in Turkey. I would be happy to carry out this request, except that this page has more than 23,000 edits to it—due to technical limitations, English Wikipedia administrators only have the ability to delete pages that have fewer than 5,000 revisions (see WP:BIGDELETE). If you don't need this page anymore, I would consider just blanking it and leaving it be, but if you are sure that you want to delete the page, then we would need to have a steward delete the page. You can request a steward perform the deletion at this noticeboard: meta:Steward requests/Miscellaneous. Thanks, Mz7 (talk) 01:32, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the guidance I’ll do that. Mccapra (talk) 04:14, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've reversed your move of this article to draft as it was created almost three months ago and there's no clear reason for it to be in draftspace. Feel free to nominate it at AfD. SportingFlyer T·C 23:11, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

Thank you for re-directing the article. I uploaded with the middle name as this is the link from the Order of Australia, but I think the version without the middle name is probably the best one. Thank you for fixing this so quickly. I normally don't add messages to talk pages so perhaps have added to the wrong location. Thank you. User:DrPlantGenomics

Hi Mccapra -- I see you tagged this article as a potential hoax. Can I please know what your concern is? --Rlandmann (talk) 22:43, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And ditto for the Caproni Ca.104 --Rlandmann (talk) 22:44, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Rlandmann: hi my main concern is that the sources provided are either inaccessible websites (404) or non- existent isbn numbers. The article creator wrote a run of articles today where the sourcing starts off ok and gets gradually worse. There is a lot of what looks like user-generated content in some of the earlier ones. But in the two I tagged as potent hoaxes the sources seem to be completely invented. Mccapra (talk) 23:30, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks -- there are some deep problems here. I *think* these are based on bad machine translations of maybe other-language wikis. And the Ca.104 article clearly describes an aircraft very different from the one in the picture and which my sources describe. Thanks so much for the heads-up and the extra pair of eyes! --Rlandmann (talk) 23:33, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well another red flag was the absence of an it.wiki article on the Caproni 104. Mccapra (talk) 23:36, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So it turns out, after discussion with the contributor, that this was completely generated by genAI!!! --Rlandmann (talk) 00:10, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wondered about that too. Disgraceful rubbish! Mccapra (talk) 07:16, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your ongoing help here! --Rlandmann (talk) 07:40, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I just reviewed one and it's a blatant copyvio :/ --Rlandmann (talk) 07:50, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Urgh. Mccapra (talk) 07:51, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In fairness to the contributor, the copyvio was upstream of them, on Polish Wikipedia, which they were translating. So it turns out there was no actual malice there. Yet another reason why direct translations from other Wikipedias is generally a Bad Idea... --Rlandmann (talk) 14:53, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hussein Sabri

[edit]

You have redirected the article Hussein Sabri Pasha to Hassan Sabry Pasha, but they are actually two different people. Please don't do redirects without checking. Caesarion8 (talk) 10:45, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Caesarion8: hi apologies if I reached the wrong conclusion but I spent quite a lot of time trying to work this out. There is an ar.wiki article [Hasan Sabri Pasha] who is apparently the same subject as the article you recently created, and that already has a link to the en.wiki article Hassan Sabry Pasha. If the two men are not the same subject then perhaps you have chosen the wrong image to illustrate the one you created? Mccapra (talk) 12:47, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, the picture in the Arabic Wikipedia version is the one who is wrong. The picture belongs to Hussein Sabri, brother of queen Nazli. And the picture is from the Al-Musawar Magazine and on its caption is written Hussein Sabri. However in wikicommons it's attributed to Hassan Sabri, probably whoever posted it mixed them both up. Caesarion8 (talk) 13:35, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you google search the image [1] it’s clear pretty much every use of it confirms it is Hassan and not Hussein. The two exceptions are a blog spot posting and Alexandria Sporting Club, neither of which I’d regard as authoritative. It is really beyond belief that so many uses of the photo of a prime minister would be wrong. It is much more plausible that two user-generated sites mistakenly used the image of a prime minister with a very similar name by mistake. Mccapra (talk) 23:40, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is from official site of Alexandria, you can see they put a picture of Hussein Sabri, while it's not the same picture, but you can clearly tell they are the same person, as they are wearing the same clothes, same features and hair, only difference is that he is looking from a different angle here: http://www.alexandria.gov.eg/Goffice/ExGov/display.aspx?ID=19 Caesarion8 (talk) 23:59, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lastly, if you search Hasan Sabri Pasha pictures, you will see he looks nothing like the man in the photo. And if you see other pictures of Hussein Sabri Pasha, he clearly looks the same as in the photo. Other than sharing the same surname and smiliar names. It's probably that Hassan Sabry Pasha is more popular than Hussein, that's why whoever attributed the photo to him mixed them up. If you search Hussein Sabri in Arabic, all results will be about Hassan Sabri instead, and you can't even find a single article about Hussein. I had to search in all kind of books and sites online to find informations about him. Thank you for your reviewing the article. Caesarion8 (talk) 00:18, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Battle of Gogetti

[edit]

Hello Mccapra. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Battle of Gogetti, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The other site is copying Wikipedia. Thank you. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:12, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a new user and need help

[edit]

In order to improve the Wikipedia encyclopedia, I have come across this draft. I have made changes to improve the article. But now I would like some advice from you as the person who drafted the article. The user who tagged the article was blocked and I could not ask him. One of the article tags is the sources that are closely related to the topic. I do not know exactly which sources are meant. If I know which sources have this problem, I can either remove them or replace them with a better source. Maybe you can help me, thank you. GolsaGolsa (talk) 08:47, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

hi thanks for your message. In order to be accepted the article needs to meet the standard set out in WP:CREATIVE. I’m not sure that the subject does in fact meet this standard. The sources in the article seem to be interviews, promotional press pieces and items that cover non notable awards. Mccapra (talk) 10:25, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your answer. But I did not understand what you mean. Do you mean that I shouldn't spend time on this article because it doesn't meet the notability? Or check the sources and remove the sources that are interviews and promotional press pieces. May I ask you to show me the sources that are promotional press pieces in the draft? one of them is enough.I want to understand your meaning correctly. Of course I should add that as far as I find out He is a specialized author of tourist guide books about Tehran.GolsaGolsa (talk) 11:31, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well from what I can see it seems unlikely the subject is notable. He runs a magazine and has authored some books but hundreds of thousands of people have done similar and aren’t considered notable for Wikipedia purposes. To establish his notability as an author we would need at least two in-depth independent critical reviews, not interviews with him, author profiles or recycled press releases. If you can’t readily find those then I think it would be better for you to spend your time on another article instead. Mccapra (talk) 13:59, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject

[edit]

Hi, I see you've contributed a lot to Dar al Kuti, would you be interested in a taskforce on oral tradition? Kowal2701 (talk) 16:01, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

hi thanks for your note. I’m glad this WikiProject is starting up but it’s not really something I feel able to contribute to as I don’t really know about it. All the best Mccapra (talk) 16:04, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's okay, if you're sort of interested, there's a section which has sources for people interested but unfamiliar Kowal2701 (talk) 16:05, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

[edit]

Hi! Just wanted to say a huge thank you for creating a stand-alone article for Sara Levy (Itzig) which was well overdue! It is written really well and has a lot of great information. It means a lot to me as a Jew who is also a musician with a particular interest in J.S. Bach, C.P.E Bach and Felix Mendelssohn (among many others) FlyingScotsman72 (talk) 12:06, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and for also creating the articles of several other female members of the Mendelssohn and Levy families who were absolutely critical in allowing the work of J.S. Bach to reach us in the 21st century today! Many many thanks FlyingScotsman72 (talk) 12:09, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • @FlyingScotsman72: Thanks very much. I learned about her on a recent trip to Leipzig where I visited Mendelssohn’s house. I was fascinated by Sara Levy and her family and I am going to order a copy of the book about her that I cited in the bibliography. I think the role of Jewish Germans in the development of music is a very interesting phenomenon. Mccapra (talk) 12:44, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Living parameter in Wikiproject Biography

[edit]

Hey, I noticed that a few of your articles about Missourian politicians showed up in Category:Biography articles without living parameter. There's a user script called User:Evad37/rater that semi-automates the addition of the "living" parameter. Also, User:BattyBot is supposed to do it at least some of the time, but I guess it doesn't catch everything. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 19:12, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@I dream of horses: Hi there! I have never written an article about a Missourian politician. Which articles about Missourian politicians do you think are my articles? I haven't run BattyBot since my PC died in April. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:24, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty Sorry, I misread the dates on the BattyBots' contributions page. The rest was directed at Mccapra. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 04:26, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horses: And apologies to you for missing where you wrote this post. I was just about to revert my response when you replied. GoingBatty (talk) 04:27, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
