Christian Dannemann Eriksen (born 14 February 1992 in Middelfart) is a Danish professional football player, currently playing as an attacking midfielder for Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam.
Career
Early career
Christian Eriksen started playing football in his hometown Middelfart before his third birthday. In 2005 he switched to Odense Boldklub, who competed in the danish youth championships. His team lost the semi finale against Brøndby IF, but afterwards he was named "Best Technical Player". The following year Odense Boldklub won the tournament , where he scored the only goal.
After a lot of great performances for OB's U/16 team and later on U/19 team and the danish national U/17 team, major European football clubs including Chelsea FC and FC Barcelona wanted him on trial.[1]. In October 2008 OB agreed a deal selling Christian Eriksen to Ajax. Here he got a contract lasting til the Summer 2010. Eriksen said: "I think, that Ajax is my club. It's big, yet not too big, and I believe, that Holland is a great place to start."
He was named Danish U-17 Talent of the Year in 2008 by the Danish FA. just after he had scored twice against Portugal. In motivation of the award, it was announced: "Christian is a classical nr. 10, who lifts up his team mates. He runs deep, shoots well with both legs - even from a long distance - and is generally a really dangerous player. One of Christians most important qualities is that he has a humble approach and works really hard to reach his goals."
"Christian has some visions for the game, which you don't normally see from players at his age. He masters all the essential football tools. Yet it's his understanding of the game, that characterizes him. We have constantly tried to challenge him, and he's one of the only players who has been graduated on the youth teams. The next step was the A-team, where he impressed a lot. For me it's been important that Christian has found the right club, and with all respect for the youth development work we do here in OB, Ajax has more."
- OB talent scout Uffe Pedersen, about Christian Eriksen's transfer from OB to Ajax in October 2008.
Eriksen is considered to be one of the biggest talents Danish football have produced in years, compared to Michael Laudrup and Brian Laudrup.
Ajax
On October 17 2008 it was announced that he had signed a 3-year contract with Ajax Amsterdam. The transfer fee received by OB was estimated to €1 million. (no source) He worked his way through the youth teams and made his first team debut for the Dutch team in the Eredivisie on 17 January 2010 against NAC Breda.[2]
International
Christian Eriksen received his first Denmark call-up in February 2010, making his debut in Denmark's friendly match against Austria in March.[3] <ref>http://sporten-dyn.tv2.dk/article.php/id-29005205.html?rss</ref/>
