The controversy of Josef Bican's statistics made by Rsssf foundation.
A few months ago, I was reading an article in the Internet about the "greatest goalscorers in football history", and the source of the article was the Rsssf foundation statistics page. I decided to visit their page for further information but, when I started to read the page, I realized that their statistics are very doubtful. The page brings the numbers of the goals and matches of 31 players, but the information of some players, almost all of them, are controversial. Their database is very doubtful, contains numbers of some players that only exist in their page, Josef Bican is one of this players. I tried to search a plausible list of Bican's numbers to see how Rsssf based to mount their statistic but, I did not have success. I only founded some pinked informations, some matches results and some seasons results but, not a complete list. So, how Rsssf got Bican's numbers to make the statistic already is a bit strange. But, excluding how Rsssf got Bican's numbers, already in his statistics can be noticed that are theories. Example: it is written in their statistics that Bican scored a total of 832 goals between 1937 to 1948 for Slavia Praha, a total of 11 years. It is an insufficient and a doubtful information, and it is the same thing to the rest of Bican's statistics, making it clear that these statistics are theories. Another reason is that, in some numbers, Rsssf puts a "+", showing that they are not sure about some results and keeping clear again that these statistics are theories. Not to mention that, the page says "only players who (mostly) played at the highest level", and because of that, players like Erwin Helmchen (Germany 20s-40s), are not included. But, it seems that this rule does not apply to Bican because, even his second division numbers are counted. Question: a second division of an Austrian championship can be considered a high level championship? I think everyone knows the answer. So, this does not make any sense, and if only players who played in the highest level are counted so, what is Arthur Friedenreich doing on this list? For those who do not know, he was a Brazilian player who played in Brazil in a time that the Brazilian football was considered amateur. So, with all that I wrote, I think that there is no doubt that Rsssf foundation statistics are only theories and, because of that, can no be classified as official. So, text cannot display this information as if it were official. Jason Smith Jones (talk) 02:05, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
I completely agree. These goal "stats" need to be looked at. Feudonym (talk) 04:12, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

BICAN STATISTICS
All 805 goals of Josef Bican are official as stated and recognised by FIFA. BBC or ANYBODY ELSE have to prove why the 46 goals are not official. I won't ask BBC but does ANYBODY IN EN. WIKIPEDIA CAN ANSWER? Γεώργιος Τερζής 2 (talk) 15:14, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
