DLI PRODUCTIONS
DLI Productions is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning Canadian producer of films and TV series [1]. Based in Montreal, the company was founded by Irene Lilienheim Angelico and Abbey Jack Neidik to produce creative and socially engaging films.
Film Productions
Irene Angelico and Abbey Neidik teamed up to form DLI Productions and produce and direct their feature documentary, Dark Lullabies, about the effects of the Holocaust on children of Survivors and second-generation Germans. The film received international critical acclaim and many awards including First Prize for "The Most Socially/Politically Engaging Film at Mannheim" [2] and "The Most Memorable Film" in Tokyo. [3] The film was included in The Greatest Documentaries of all Times at the prestigious international A Salute to the Documentary, [4]. In the summer of 2013, it was selected as the inaugural feature documentary at the Stratford Festival Forum. [5] The highly regarded film continues to be screened and broadcast worldwide including special commemorative screening in Berlin [6] [7] and Vilnius. [8] [9] It will be shown at Liberation 75 in Toronto in 2021.
Angelico and Neidik went on to produce, direct and write numerous documentaries including the series The Cola Conquest, [10] a metaphor for America and American influence worldwide; Black Coffee, [11] a trilogy on the social political and revolutionary history of coffee; and Inside the Great Magazines [12]about the first international medium.
DLI's documentary one-offs include Between the Solitudes/Entre Solitudes, [13] about the Anglos of Quebec; A Song For Tibet [14]about the Dalai Lama and Tibetans in exile; The Love Prophet and the Children of God [15]about a sex for salvation cult; The Journey Home: A Romanian Adoption; She Got Game [16] about the women’s tennis tour; Unbreakable Minds, [17] to break the stigma of mental illness; Vendetta Song [18] about a Kurdish honour killing; Canadaville, USA, a safe haven for Hurricane Katrina victims; [19]Big Wind[20] and the detrimental effects of wind turbines; and Shekinah: the Intimate Life of Hasidic Women. [21]Their films have garnered awards, honours and critical acclaim worldwide, including Genies, Geminis, Gémaux, First Prizes, several Best Documentary awards including Best Documentary Series by an Independent at Hot Docs; the prestigious Silver Hugo in Chicago; two Gold Apples in San Francisco, a Gold Plaque. The CIDA prize for the Best Documentary on International Development, Guirlande d'Honneur, Chris Statuette, two Ecumenical Jury award, two awards for Social Political engagement, a Red Ribbon and several audience favourite picks, as well as many nominations in various categories including an Academy Award Nominations.[22]
DLI is in distribution with Beyond Earth: the Beginning of NewSpace [23] about the privatization of space and Shekinah Rising [24] about Hasidic woman today; in production with First to Stand about Irwin Cotler and the Raoul Wallenberg Centre’s for Human Rights; [25]and in post-production with the feature version of Reaching for Zion, [26] a film about racism, anti-Semitism and exile featuring Bob Marley’s granddaughter Donisha Pendergrast.
Books
Along with their work in film, DLI has been involved in the publication of books and articles. The Aftermath: A Survivor's Odyssey Through War-Torn Europe by Henry Lilienheim [27] [28]t[29]he inspiration for Dark Lullabies and which was endorsed by Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Elie Wiesel and the Dalai Lama. Angelico also created The Third Seder: A Haggadah for Yom HaShoah, [30] created uniquely to commemorate the Liberation from the Holocaust. The Aftermath: Grandpa's Search for Grandma after the War is a graphic novel written and illustrated by Toben Neidik based on his grandfather's search.[31]
