Dr. David A. Rausch taught at a number of colleges and universities before and after receiving his Ph.D. in history from Kent State University in 1978. From 1980 to 2005 he taught in both the undergraduate and graduate divisions of Ashland University, becoming a tenured full professor of history and Chairman of the Department of History and Political Science. Dr. Rausch won a number of teaching and research awards while serving on committees, such as the Judicial Committee. He was the faculty advisor to the Ashland University Student Senate.(1)

Dr. Rausch published scores of books and hundreds of articles. His sixth book, A Legacy of Hatred: Why Christins Must Not Forget the Holocaust, was awarded the Angel Statue in Hollywood California.(2). In the Ashland community, Dr. RauscH worked with public school teachers and administrators on Holocaust studies; and on the state level, he was chosen for the State of Ohio’s first Governor’s Council on Holocaust Education. On the national level, he served on the first Education Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. A popular conference speaker and participant, he traveled the world to work with academic forums and on research projects.(3)

Known as “Dr. Dave” to his students, he never missed a scheduled class in 35 years of teaching and had taught over 12,000 students in classes when he retired from Ashland University at the age of 58 in 2005. For the next 15 years, he traveled the world, lecturing at universities in all parts of the globe until the coronavirus pandemic closed universities and inhibited travel. Dr. Rausch’s latest project is a textbook, Sociology: Conversations with the World, coauthored with sociologist Dr. V. Jacquette Rhoades(4).
