The Saracens Mavericks are part of the Netball Superleague (UK), which consists of the top ten netball teams in Wales, Scotland and England.[1] Team colours are red and black. They have won the Netball Superleague twice in its history, and were runners up 3 times. The Mavericks are sponsored by the University of Hertfordshire and Benecos UK.

History

The Saracens Mavericks (originally called the Hertfordshire Mavericks) was formed in 2005 in partnership with England Netball as one of the franchise teams in the Netball Superleague. The Mavericks have gone on to be one of the best performing teams in the league.

2015 Season

The 2015 Netball Superleague season proved to be a success for the Mavericks as they reached the grand final for the third time but lost to an unstoppable Surrey Storm side. Experienced England internationals Sasha Corbin and Camilla Buchanan acted as captain and vice-captain.

2016 Season

The Saracens Mavericks announced a strong-12 squad for the 2016 season. England internationals Layla Guscoth and Lindsey Keable acted as captain and vice-captain. Mavericks also added the experience of former Silver Ferns midcourter Joline Henry and Calypso shooter Samantha Wallace. They went on to reach the semifinals but lost out to defending champions Surrey Storm and later Team Bath in the third place playoff.

2017 Season

The 2017 season proved to be the least performed by the Mavericks as they finished in a disappointing seventh position which is their lowest placing in the league. The Mavericks lost the services of; Layla Guscoth to Team Bath, George Fisher and Samantha May to Wasps Netball, Samantha Wallace to the New South Wales Swifts in Australia, Ella Clark to Loughborough Lightning, Joline Henry and Camilla Buchanan (injured).[2] In return saw the signing of kiwi midcourter Keshia Grant from the Mainland Tactix in the ANZ Championship as well as uprising tennis and netball star Sophie Drakeford-Lewis. Lindsay Keable acted as captain.

Sponsorship

The Mavericks were sponsored by makeup and skincare brand benecos for the 2016—2017 netball season.[3] In September 2017, it was announced that this partnership would be extended for a further three years, and that the Mavericks would change name to the benecosMavericks.[4]

In January 2019 the team announced a partnership with rugby club Saracens F.C., resulting in the team being renamed from benecosMaverics to the Saracens Mavericks. [5][6]
