Contrary to popular belief, the President of the United States is not elected by a direct vote of the Citizenship, but rather by the electoral college, which is empowered to select any U.S. Citizen over 35 years of age, regardless of the will of The People, as was the case in the election of Donald John Trump. Despite the Public's electoral poll on November 8, 2016 with Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton receiving 2,864,974 more votes than Trump, the Electoral College, even under threat of penalties by some States, defied the popular vote and elected Donald Trump on December 19, 2016, with the inauguration on January 20, 2017.
