Undue weight

While of course the Raiders' relocation dances have been important events in the history of the franchise, the section on relocations (including ephemeral rumors of the sort that follow many teams and keep many bored sportswriters in jobs) is larger than the section detailing the on-field history of the franchise. I think the IP sort of misinterpreted Ravenswing's point, that this issue is basically in regards to WP:RECENTISM. The problem is the currently very long "New stadium proposals and relocation" section. Because the Raiders are now going to Vegas, we no longer need that very extensive coverage of all those other proposed relocations, like to Santa Clara, LA, San Antonio, Concord and San Diego. Or a five-paragraph discussion on Ronnie Lott's proposed replacement stadium for Oakland. In the long-run, they will now just be footnotes in history. Sam Boyd Stadium

From what I read about Sam Boyd Stadium, It technically meets requirements even tjougj it has 35,000 seats but then that would mean the Chargers shouldn't be able to play at the 30,000 seat StubHub Center FlashGaming (talk) 13:03, 1 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SportsFan007: Only they can decide that, no one outside the team or league can answer that question. No use to speculate when the could just as easily be California Raiders, or Bay Raiders, or just Raiders or something else entirely. Since the team is still playing in the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum should it still say 1995- present instead of 1995-2019 until the move in 2020 is official to the Las Vegas Stadium?Joker4lifead (talk) 04:27, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, the fact that Las Vegas Stadium is planned to open in 2020, by definition means 2019 is the final year the Raiders will play at Oakland Coliseum. Please correct me if I am wrong. SportsFan007 (talk) 05:48, 26 February 2019 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]

In the video in this link, http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001018885/article/raiders-coliseum-authority-reach-agreement-for-2019 made some point about saying should the Las Vegas Stadium runs into problems and can't open on time. The deal the Raiders and the Coliseum Authority are working on finishing up in this week or next week would give them the option to stay in the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum until the as Vegas Stadium opens. When to move and rename this article to "Las Vegas Raiders"

When we moved the Rams article from St. Louis to Los Angeles Rams in 2016, and renamed the Chargers article from San Diego to Los Angeles Chargers in 2017, it looks like we only did so when the teams and the league started to officially use the new names, NOT immediately after the end of the previous season. Thus we should do the same here: do not rename the pages until at least the league and the team start using the Las Vegas name. This is especially true given the fact that the Raiders have an option to remain in Oakland in 2020 if their new stadium in Las Vegas is not finished in time.[1] Zzyzx11 (talk) 01:11, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Zzyzx11: I think this goes hand in hand with my question about when we should change the team is playing in the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum to Allegiant Stadium. As Yosemiter said as we cannot predict the future as an absolute, we should keep the "1995–present" until it is not "present". Obviously the Raiders are indeed moving to Las Vegas in 2020. There is an option to remain in Oakland if there is a delay. We know that even though there is a 99.9% chance that they are in Vegas next season, it is important to wait until Mark Davis, the Raiders and the NFL officially confirm the move, which should be confirmed within a matter of weeks. --MusicAndArtFan (talk) 15:25, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To support what other editors have said, until the team and the NFL start referring to the team as the Las Vegas Raiders, the team remains the Oakland Raiders. As stated at Wikipedia:Article titles#Use commonly recognizable names, Wikipedia "generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)". -- John Broughton (♫♫) 01:43, 4 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with the consensus here. No need to rush. It certainly shouldn't be changed before the end of the current season. Even though the Raiders' season has ended, the 2019 NFL season is still ongoing, so they are still the Oakland Raiders. If the NFL and Raiders websites are still using Oakland (which they still are as of this writing), as are other secondary sources like ESPN and Fox Sports, then Wikipedia should be as well. --JonRidinger (talk) 02:11, 4 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
