Luka Berulava (Georgian: ლუკა ბერულავას, born 27 November 2002) is a Georgian figure skater. He and his partner, Alina Butaeva, were bronze medalists in the pairs figure skating at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics.
Biography
In September 2019, Berulava and his partner, Alina Butaeva, made their debut for Georgia as a pair skater in the ISU Junior Grand Prix, first placing eighth in Poland,[1] then placing sixth in Croatia.[2] Their result overall qualified them for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics.[3] Berulava and Butaeva represented Georgia in the 2019 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb that December, winning the junior pairs event.[4] In November, they then partook in the Volvo Open Cup in Riga, Latvia, placing third.[5]
In January 2020, they both participated in the Winter Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland. They finished third in the short program behind two pairs from Russia,[6] then did likewise in the free skating program. Their combined score put them in third place with a bronze medal.[7] This was Georgia's first medal in the Winter Youth Olympic Games, and their tenth medal in the Youth Olympic Games overall.[8] They also received a gold medal for their participation in the team trophy figure skating event as part of Team Courage, composed also of Arlet Levandi from Latvia, Ksenia Sinitsyna from Russia, and ice dancers Utana Yoshida and Shingo Nishiyama from Japan.[9]
