The 1966 Intercontinental Cup was won by Peñarol, who defeated Real Madrid 2–0 in both legs.[1]

In 2017 FIFA Council recognised all of them as club world champions with the same title to the FIFA Club World Cup winners, then as official[2][3] "world champions" FIFA.[4][5][6][7]
