Dalia Leinartė
Dalia Leinarte (born in 1958, October 25 in former Soviet Union) is a Lithuanian historian, author and activist. Leinarte is Chairperson of the UN CEDAW Committee. She is Fellow-Commoner at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, and Professor at Vytautas Magnus University. In 2018 she was selected by Apolitical among the Most influential people in global policy Gender equality Top 100.

Biography
Leinarte was the first expert elected (2012) to the UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) from Eastern European countries. She became Chairperson of the CEDAW in 2017 before serving two years as Vice-Chair of the Committee. Leinarte is Chair of CEDAW Working Group on General Recommendation Trafficking in Women and Girls in the Context of Global Migration.
Dalia Leinarte was born in 1958 in Lithuania’s historic capital Trakai. She graduated from Vilnius University and earned her PhD in History in 1996 at Vytautas Magnus University. Leinarte won prestigious FULBRIGHT scholarship and spent a year as a researcher at SUNY Buffalo for 2002-2003. In 2005 she also won American Association of University Women (AAUW) Research Scholar grant. In 2009 Leinarte became full professor at Vilnius University.
After the break of Soviet Union Leinarte has become actively involved in promotion of women’s rights and gender equality. For almost two decades she was a director of Gender Studies Center at Vilnius University (2000-2017). As an activist of civil society she was especially focused on issues of trafficking in women and girls.
Leinarte is an author of a number of articles and books on family and women’s history. Her book Lithuanian Family in Its European Context won Association of Advanced Baltic Studies (AABS) honorable mention in 2018.
