Nick Blakey (born 27 February 2000) is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited by the Sydney Swans with the 10th draft pick in the 2018 AFL Draft.
Early life
Originally from Melbourne, Blakey is the son of Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne dual AFL Premiership defender John Blakey. By the start of 2018, Blakey was touted in the media as a potential top-10 draft pick. Having spent years with the Sydney Swans Academy, Blakey had a choice of three possible clubs through his father's playing time at the North Melbourne Kangaroos and Brisbane Lions, and his time at the Sydney Swans Academy as an Academy player. A prospective father-son selection for the Lions and Kangaroos, Blakey publicly stated that his preference was the Sydney Swans[1].
The Swans selected Blakey in the 2018 AFL Draft at 10th, matching a bid from Greater Western Sydney.
