Šaban Šaulić (Serbian Cyrillic: Шабан Шаулић; born 6 September 1951) is a Serbian folk singer. He is currently one of the judges on the televised singing contest Pinkove Zvezde.[1]

Early life

Šaulić was born in Šabac, Serbia.[2] His mother Ilduza Demirović was from Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His father died while Šaulić was in Australia on tour for the New Year's Eve holiday. He couldn't attend his father's funeral the next day, and has often said he will never be able to come to terms with this fact.[3]

Career

He released his debut EP Dajte mi utjehu in 1969 when he was eighteen years old.

Šaulić held a concert at Belgrade's Sava Centar on 25 November 2011.[4]

Personal life

In 1970, he served the mandatory Yugoslav army service in Bitola in what is now the Republic of Macedonia.

His wife's name is Gordana (born 1958).[5][6] Together they have a son Mihajlo, and two daughters, Sanela and Ilda (born 8 December 1978);[7] Ilda is also a singer.[8][9] For his wife Šaulić wrote and released a hit song for his 1985 album Kafanska noć, titled "Gordana".
