Favorite Page

By far my favorite page is Harry Chapin. I have made countless edits to the page, cited EVERY required source that was needed, and very much more. Harry was an amazing singer-songwriter in the 1970's and early 80's. He was unfortunately killed in 1981, in a car accident. However, his legacy will never die. Harry was one of the most famous musicians in the 70's. Harry Chapin made history. His record deal was one of the biggest of its time, due to the fact that it granted him FREE recording time, which had never been done before. On The Tonight Show, Harry also made history. His performance of Taxi (song), got so many calls to the show, that they called him back the next night, which had never happened before. Furthermore, he was on the show 14 times. Johnny Carson himself called Harry one of the most popular musicians. Outside of music, he was also the most politically and philanthropically active performer in America. Half of his 200-300 concerts per year were benefits for fighting world hunger. He was also the backbone of president Jimmy Carter's commission on hunger, and at the time of his death had just been named a New York senator. Harry never stopped pushing, he was a race horse. His day-to-day calendar never had any room on it, but he still managed to cram more into it. With all of the philanthropic work, political work, and studio recording, he still managed to go on tour every year and have a family life. Sometimes while on tour, if he had a day or two off, he would get on his private jet and fly home to his family. Furthermore, if someone offered to donate money to him for fighting world hunger, he would give you a private concert, often times before his actual tour shows started. Hope you have enjoyed the history lesson!
