Pierre Milza (16 April 1932 – 28 February 2018)[1] was a French historian known for his interest in the history of Italy, Italian immigration to France, and fascism, of which he was regarded as an expert.

Milza was a professor emeritus at Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris, teaching the history between 1968 and 2000.[2] Throughout his career he also spent time teaching in Florence, Parma, and Geneva.

Early life

Milza was a second-generation Italian immigrant, born in Paris, France to Italian parents. His father, Olivier Milza was born near Parma, Italy.[3][4] His status as an immigrant motivated his studies in Italian history and Italian-French immigration.

Distinctions

Milza was a member of the François Mitterrand Institute.
