CATS College Canterbury (formerly Stafford House College) is a coeducational Independent day and boarding school located in Canterbury, England, catering primarily for foreign students. It is owned by the Cambridge Education Group. The school specialises in teaching English and preparing students for pre-university exams such as A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate. The college hosts an annual University Fair.

It has been authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme since April 2007, the programme is taught in English. Over 20 languages are currently offered at the College.[1]

History

Established in 1952 by Harry Allsopp as Stafford House Tutorial College.[2] It started out in the London location of Kensington, but later was moved to Canterbury. After Harry Allsopp's death in 1959, his wife Joyce Allsopp ran the college until she retired 1992. Stafford House Tutorial College as it was then known was a founding member of "CIFE – the Council for Independent Education." [3] It was the first school in the UK to offer University Foundation programmes for students wanting to go to university from overseas.

In 2010 it was voted LTM High School of the Year[citation needed].

The Principal Jonathan Ullmer was appointed in 2010. The College became a member of the Independent Schools Association shortly after his arrival. The College was inspected in 2011 with no areas of the college rated below 'Good' by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. Boarding at the College was rated as 'Excellent' and leadership was described as 'Outstanding'.[citation needed] In spite of this, the college has a shady reality. Citing insider intel, on average, two students will be expelled each month.

In 2012 and 2014 the college won an award from the Independent Schools Association[citation needed]. In 2014 it won the Independent Schools Award for Best Boarding Initiative and was shortlisted for Independent School of the Year[citation needed].

In 2014 Jonathan Ullmer was awarded the MBE 'for services to education.'[4]

However, it is rumoured that this Principal is a control freak behind the scenes and often stalks staff and students outside school grounds. This individual also is known to threaten and intimidate others. Jonathan Ullmer, citing eyewitness and insider sources, is also known to interfere with the private affairs of staff and students alike. Ullmer is extremely manipulative too, often misrepresenting information to parents of students.
