Salina Area Technical College, or Salina Tech, is a Technical College located in Salina, Kansas. The College was recently[when?] ranked the #1 two-year institution in the state of Kansas for student success and among the top 10% of all college's national for college excellence.[citation needed] The main campus is located in Salina, but offer many classes in many neighboring cities and counties. Founded in 1965, Salina Tech is a member of the Kansas Association of Technical Colleges and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and governed by the Kansas Board of Regents. Salina Tech offers Certificates and Associate Degrees of Applied Science in many programs ranging from healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, business, construction, and graphic design. Salina Tech also offers an array of general education courses, most of which are fully transferable to Colleges and Universities across Kansas.

Transportation

Auto Collision Repair · If you have a love for cars, a steady hand, and an eye for detail, you might find a career as a collision repair technician very appealing. Auto collision repair technicians repair cars after they have been damaged in an accident. Students in the Auto Collision Repair program at Salina Tech receive hands-on training ranging from basic repairs to utilizing high-tech computerized systems used in the collision industry today. Extensive training is given in both structural and non-structural collision repairs as well as broad instruction in painting and refinishing techniques. Diesel Technology · The demand for highly-skilled diesel technicians continues to grow exponentially. Advanced electronic and computerized testing equipment are becoming prominent in the industry today. Salina Tech graduates are proficient in both and will be a valuable addition to any diesel repair facility. Students in the Diesel Technology program become skilled at repairing and maintaining a variety of agriculture, construction, and over-the-road (OTR) trucking diesel engines. Led by ASE-certified master technicians, the NATEF Certified Diesel Technology program at Salina Tech prepares you for an exciting career as a diesel technician.

Construction Trades

Construction Technology · Have you ever dreamed of working on a multi-million dollar construction project or building a custom home? Then the Construction Technology program at Salina Tech is for you. Our nine month program helps students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to safely perform a wide range of construction related tasks. Students develop a comprehensive understanding of residential construction including framing, cabinet installation, blueprint reading, construction codes, and general site work. Graduates leave this program prepared to successfully pursue a career in the construction industry.

Electrical Technology · Electricians install, maintain, repair, and test electrical systems for industrial, commercial, and residential industries. A career as an electrician requires the utmost attention to detail as well as an innate ability to resolve complex problems on the fly. Due to the extensive job training and knowledge required, most electricians are qualified to choose among a variety of different work environments including construction, electrical maintenance, commercial, residential, and industrial. Graduates are armed with the knowledge to excel on the Journeyman’s Exam and begin their career as an electrician.

HVAC · Control temperature with an education in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. HVAC professionals keep people warm and toasty in the winter, and cool in the summer. The program offers full instruction in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Machine Tool Technology · Skilled machinists are an integral part of the manufacturing industry. They execute precise operations outlined by drafters and engineers. The Machine Tool Technology program at Salina Tech will prepare you for this in-demand career. Our program focuses on the most commonly used machinery including engine lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and CNC operations. This precision based industry requires extensive attention to detail and calculation of dimensions and tolerances. Welding · Are you ready for a job so hot that it melts metal? The Welding Technology program at Salina Tech is just that, preparing students for career opportunities in a variety of industries including manufacturing and fabrication. Featuring a state of the art welding facility, students learn Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and welding theory. Allied Health

Certified Nurse Aide · A career as a certified nursing aide puts you on the front lines of patient care. Nursing aides are vital to daily operations in hospitals, healthcare clinics, and long-term nursing care facilities. Working directly under the supervision of a nurse, certified nursing aides assist patients with their everyday tasks. The program emphasizes the standards of care towards geriatric patients. Students are given instruction on anatomy and physiology, nursing care guidelines, observing and recording, procedures in taking vital signs, and admitting, transferring, and dismissing residents. Emergency Medical Technician · Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) are a part of the first-line of medical responders to an accident or emergency. EMT’s are trained in skills to provide immediate lifesaving care for critical patients including conducting basic, noninvasive interventions to help save lives and reduce harm at emergency sites. Salina Tech’s program includes training in first aid treatment, emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures, observation, record-keeping, assessment of nature and extent of illness or injury, and operation of essential equipment. At the conclusion of the course, students will be able to sit for the State Board of Emergency Medical Services licensure exam and begin their career as an Emergency Medical Technician. Students must be 17 years of age and have current immunizations to enroll in the program.

Dental Assisting · Dental assistants play a vital role in assisting a dentist with the delivery of quality oral health care. Being a key member in dental practices, dental assistants have a high level of interaction with patients, hygienists, and dentists. As healthcare professionals, dental assistants receive a high level of personal satisfaction through helping people improve their health. Combining extensive classroom instruction, in-depth lab work, and over 300 hours of clinical experience at a variety of dental offices, students are prepared for an exciting and rewarding new career as a dental assistant.

Medical Assistant · Medical assistants are critical in managing physician offices. The Business Administrative Technology program features three areas of concentration for students to choose from.

  • Marketing/Management · Knowing how to successfully run a business or market a business is a distinctive skill set. The marketing and management pathway in the Business Administrative Technology program prepares you for a future in business. This pathway features business courses with an emphasis in marketing and management. Students will be introduced to marketing techniques, advanced accounting practices, as well as, management theories.
  • Desktop Management · Businesses today are having to find ways to do more with less. Employees possessing both administrative and desktop management skills are extremely valuable. The Desktop Management pathway prepares students for desktop management, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Courses include information management, office machines, CompTIA A+ Essentials, and CompTIA A+ Practical Applications.
  • Medical Front Office · The healthcare industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in today’s economy. A graduate from the medical front office pathway of the Business Administrative Technology program will have many opportunities for employment. Students will be trained in all business needs associated with the front office of a medical facility. Courses include medical administrative aspects, medical terminology, and insurance billing and coding.

Graphic Design

If your dream is to inspire and captivate an audience using graphic art, then the Commercial and Advertising Art program at Salina Tech is for you. Our students combine art and technology to communicate their client’s message using a variety of design elements. The program combines lecture from highly qualified instructors with a significant amount of lab and project time. With an emphasis on advertising, students learn to plan, analyze, and create visual and multimedia solutions to uniquely promote a variety of products, events, or businesses. Students will be exposed to a variety of different programs used in industry today including:

Students will develop overall layout and production design of magazines, newspapers, and other publications using a variety of methods such as color, type, illustration, photography, and various print and layout techniques. In addition, students will produce promotional displays, packaging, marketing brochures, web pages, interactive media, and multimedia material for many different products and businesses.
