BronxScienceHighNYC.jpg up for deletion
You seem to be the original en.wp author, but the Commons uploader left no en.wp logs. (Since you're an admin I guess you can see them.) I've nominated it for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests/File:BronxScienceHighNYC.jpg based on a speedy from earlier today. Any clarifications you can provide to the deletion discussion would be appreciated. --Closeapple (talk) 20:01, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Trustees resent turning school over to Catholics
Found this. Could you add a bit of the Tabor Park info in the Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies article as well and the transfer?
There's also the Toronto Star articles that you can add a bit:
- Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School / Marian Academy (Toronto)
- Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School
- Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School
- St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School
- Michael Power/St. Joseph High School

Some articles need more info!
- Can you reword and add more on Lakeview Secondary School for me? Same with Kingsmill Secondary School, Humbergrove Secondary School, and Central Etobicoke High School (ex-Westway). Update and add more info for Bishop Allen, Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton, Jean Vanier, St. Patrick, Marian Academy, Michael Power-St. Joseph, and Father Henry Carr.
- For the portables part (on TheStar archives), add more and reword them on St. Basil-the-Great, Brother Edmund Rice, Francis Libermann, Regina Pacis, Blessed Mother Teresa, Senator O'Connor, Blessed Pope John Paul II, and Mary Ward.
- Add more info on Midland Avenue Collegiate Institute: Threaten closure in 1988-89 for SCAS, Closure in 2000, SCAS relocation.

X-Keyscore slides
I hadn't heard about X-Keyscore until you mentioned it to me, but it seems like I am interested in uploading the slides because I just uploaded the one the Guardian had in PDF format: commons:File:XKeyscore_presentation_from_2008.pdf. Translations into Thai
Hello WhisperToMe, I am not sure where to write to you, so you may see this message double. I noticed you wrote on a page that if any task needs to be done you could be asked for it. I am a member of the international team of Wiki Loves Monuments who takes care of the upload campaigns used with the picture contest Wiki Loves Monuments next month. For these upload campaigns we need to translate some templates into various languages so that as much as possible people can participate in their own language. My question is if you can have a look at th:วิกิพีเดีย:สถานทูตวิกิมีเดีย#Translation_requests_into_Thai where I posted a message with specific lines to translate into Thai. Maybe I didn't wrote it on the right place but can you have a look at it for me and translate it? Thanks! Romaine (talk) 14:08, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- It is all already been translated into French, Chinese and Spanish, but I think it would be good to have also a Thai translation to enable more people to participate. If you can help me wit that, please do. Romaine (talk) 02:04, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Question about Chinese characters
Hi, I actually saw your question on the ref desk earlier - I can't decipher the character either. My best guess is that it's one of the poetic month names (I was quite sure it was in the Chinese calendar article, but I can't find it there. It's been half a decade since I've worked on that article, and it's looking very different!). The alternative names for the twelve months, according to the Chinese wikipedia, are:
But I can't definitively say that it looks like any of them! --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 19:23, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monument 2013 in Thailand
Hi WhisperToMe! I am organizing commons:commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in Thailand. I would be grateful if you consider signing up at commons:Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013_in_Thailand/People. Hi WhisperToMe,
Thank you for signing up to help organise "Wiki loves monuments 2013 in Thailand." We are only one week away from the competition but we haven't had any confirmed juries or awards from any external partners we contacted.
There are several aspects that non-Thai speakers like you can help. w:th:วิกิพีเดีย:ศาลาชุมชน/อภิปราย/Wiki loves monuments 2013 in Thailand
- If you think you can be a jury or know someone who is willing to do the task, please let us know by signing up to be a jury section of the page.
- There is a ongoing discussion about jury tool on wikilovesmonuments@lists.wikimedia.org. If you know well about technical stuff and could help jury make use of it, that would be great. There are a number of other technical issues discussed in the list. We might have only a short period of time to get the Thai WLM up to date with the technology there.
- If you can provide some awards or know someone who is willing to do so, please put let us know in Prizes section of the page.
--Taweetham (talk) 04:05, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hello, we have sent you an email regarding WLM 2013. Please confirm whether you have received it. Thank you so much. --Taweetham (talk) 02:03, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, WhisperToMe. Could you please confirm the date that you will be able to finish the first pass selection? We have relative small number of photos compared to other countries. It is therefore expected that we will be at least on time or even finish before the deadline. Your help is very important to us. --Taweetham (talk) 04:00, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. Friday is good enough. --Taweetham (talk) 04:16, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Please reply to all of us with the file names/links of 10-20 photos. I will handle the rest. The criteria are (1) good photography, (2) good for encyclopedia purpose and (3) good representation of the monument. The criteria are the same for first and second pass. Thanks so much. --Taweetham (talk) 01:30, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

- It's ok. I know that the job is rather an art than science and you may find it difficult but please use your gut feeling for it. In the second pass, the scores from three juries will be cumulative and your eyes will be representing Wikipedia volunteers'. Hey dude, just to give you a note, the TDSB still owns these schools (Humbergrove, Kingsmill, Tabor Park) via their TLC list but the previous boards ran them. Secondly, I'm doing the articles on Christ the King Catholic School (Toronto) and Josyf Cardinal Slipyj Catholic School. Any assistance is appreciated via the Toronto Star Archives.

Dufferin Peel
Evening man, I forgot to mention that the Dufferin-Peel secular and separate boards operated French schools before 1998. FreshCorp619 (talk) 03:07, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Update to WhisperToMe :
The DPRCSSB had French schools like the MSSB. Its best to look up the archives:
- École élémentaire catholique Ange-Gabriel Mississauga, Ontario
- École élémentaire catholique René-Lamoureux Mississauga, Ontario
- École élémentaire catholique Saint-Jean-Baptiste Mississauga, Ontario
- École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc Brampton, Ontario
- École secondaire catholique Sainte-Famille Mississauga, Ontario
The board was a all French and English board before 1998. FreshCorp619 (talk) 03:18, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Mimico High School
Dude, you haven't responded to my last messages. So I made this Mimico High School article. You could put these things to use so you can add to the Michael Power/St. Joseph High School article later:

- Mimico High gathers for goodbye (also found on here)
- 1,000 Mimico faithful mourn school closing

- Peel separate board may gain an addition in school exchange - "renting Mimico High School, which has been rejected by Metro's separate board"
- Separate board takes two schools rejects one - "But the separate board balked at taking Mimico High School on Etobicoke's south side." and " Separate school trustee Ed McMahon said students in the overcrowded Michael Power-St.Joseph school, on Dundas St. W."
- Parents angry, protest growing over busing plan in Etobicoke - "to the Mimico Adult Centre, a vocational high school in the Lakeshore area."
- Declining interest in basketball a problem
- 'Be patient' on crowding official tells school boards - "The separate board has already rejected Mimico because of its location and wants a public school in central Etobicoke. Trustees have accepted Humbergrove in Etobicoke and West Park in Toronto."

Conseil des écoles françaises de la communauté urbaine de Toronto + French Schools
Hey man, I've found the Conseil des écoles françaises de la communauté urbaine de Toronto article that you could reference:
- The former CEFCUT (Conseil des écoles françaises de la communauté urbaine de Toronto) which was part of the former Metropolitan Toronto School Board
- Metro's public school boards - "39 French board (CEFCUT) Students: 1832 Trustees: 8 Budget: $18.6 million." (As of 1996)
- Metro's French schools set an example
- Costly French schools spark worries in Metro
- Back-to-school bell rings - for some
- 9.8% tax increase set by Metro public board
- Board pulls out of buying co-op City quits Metro school supply purchase plan - "...East York Board of Education and the French public school board in Metro."
- French Language School Council
To give this a perfect revelation, the Metro Toronto Francophone public school boards were the MSSB and CEFCUT.

MTSB
Another ones listed:
- Single public school board for Metro rejected

De La Salle
First and foremost, did you do any of these things that I left you yet?
Anyway, before you continue, can you add a bit more about De La Salle College (Toronto) as well as pre-Bishop Allen Academy and Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School? There's newspaper clippings to use:
- Students move to new school as vandalized building fixed - "Students and staff at De La Salle College in Toronto are being temporarily relocated to an Etobicoke school after the building was vandalized last month.", "Classes have been cancelled this week and the approximately 850 students will be moved Monday into the former Kingsmill Secondary School.", and "The $200,000 trashing of the secondary school on Farnham Ave., in the Avenue Rd.-St. Clair Ave., area has left remnants of ceiling asbestos exposed, a potential hazard Metro separate school board officials want cleaned up before students return to the classrooms, board spokesman John Fauteux said yesterday."
- Brothers abandon De La Salle phase-out Separate board's 'deal' falls apart
- T"oronto high school may break from the Metro Separate School Board"
- "Talks stall over plan to make De La Salle a private school"
- A crowd of parents and students lashed out at Metro ... - "And she asked staff to look into a site for a new Catholic high school in north Toronto. The board is now looking at how to accommodate De La Salle students for..."
- "Graduation Students at Toronto's De La Salle Catholic High School have ..."
Could you do that first before the backlogs? Thanks. FreshCorp619 (talk) 12:54, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Hey man, since you're doing something big tonight, can you help me add on the "clippings" to the Brockton High School (Toronto) article? There's a list:
- West-end high school had history of violence, gangs - "Barry Stroud was principal of Brockton for four years until leaving in February to take over the Boyne River Natural Science School in Shelburne. (The school is operated by the Toronto board.)"; "The 17- year-old was stabbed, cut and bruised in the afternoon ambush that involved black and white students, police said. Another Brockton student was beaten and stabbed just minutes later. Police seized a gym bag full of weapons after the attack and at least four Brockton students were charged.", "Brockton, built in the late 1960s as a vocational school, is slated to close in June because of declining enrolment."
- Students 'scared' after 2 gang attacks
- West Park school to be closed by 1988 - ""What else can we do?" Ward 2 Trustee Irene Atkinson said last night. She is chairman of the committee, which received a task force report last week noting that in October there were 385 students attending the basic-level-education vocational school at Bloor St. W. and Dundas St." and "The task force recommends that West Park start "merging" with Brockton High School, on Croatia St. south of Bloor St. W., in the 1987-88 school year."
- Catholic board wants to take over Toronto's West Park Secondary - "West Park students are expected to end up in Brockton High School, on Croatia St., south of Bloor St. W. "
- 'School of the future' to put math, science first Toronto board's only academy to open next year
- 2 Toronto teachers shot in offices
- Mall now satellite campus to students
- Woman found slain behind high school
- Two teachers shot at high school
- Young 'tough' jailed a year for robbery
- Be confident, young women told - "The day-long student-organized conference at Brockton High School"
- Video captures students' voice - "...including the shootings at Eastern Commerce and Brockton high schools"
- Slain addict lost race to drugs, violence - "The couple, both unemployed, lived just blocks from Brockton High School where her body was discovered. Chandrake said he last saw Pinkus at 6 am..."
- Slain woman had tried to quit drugs
- An honor roll of high school heroes Here are the 372 youngsters selected as top athletes in Metro area - "...well as Toronto's Betty Benson of Brockton, who has won her school's coveted..."

- School helps teens stay off the streets - "I was thrown into a basic program at Brockton school in Grade 9, but I wasn't really..."
- One of a group of black high school students
- BLOOR-DUFFERIN ARC Alpha II Alternative School, Brock Jr. P.S., Dovercourt Jr. P.S., Kent Sr. P.S. and Pauline Jr. P.S. - "If Bloor moves to Brockton: new facility, on the subway and is a city school, demographics suit, has secondary facilities (e.g. labs), matches TOPS self-directed philosophy, Alpha II easily expands with grades 7-12 in one facility "
- Kent/Alpha II Staff Model Proposal: Moving Forward - "Relocate Kent SPS and Alpha II Alternative School to the retrofitted Brockton HS; along with Bloor CI"
- Vive le West Toronto CI - "The use of West Toronto for continuing education programs is intended to be a short term solution however. TDSB staff are recommending the board explore the creation of a long-term location as part of its redevelopment of its schools at Bloor Street and Dufferin Avenue. The TDSB owns three schools in that area - Kent Senior Public School, Bloor Collegiate Institute, and the former Brockton High School and Stadium - though the board has already approved the closure of Kent. The TDSB intends to generate cash by redeveloping the property, leaving one high school of 1,200 students on the property, perhaps on the site of Brockton H.S."
- ONTARIO'S HIGH SCHOOLS The hidden curriculum Students get the message when they're sorted into winners and losers - "When a store in the Dufferin Mall is robbed, students say police immediately show up at Brockton, at Bloor and Dufferin Sts. Teenagers at Bloor Collegiate, a school on the same block for university-bound students, are not suspected, students say." and ""If you're in a level 6 (advanced) school, you're going somewhere," says Peter McGovern, a vocational student at Brockton High School in Toronto."

You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.

East Toronto schools
Hey dude, you haven't done the article's i've gave you: Midland, Vanier, Newman, SCAS, Tabor, St. Patrick, Lakeview. Can you do any of these tonight before you continue? Thanks for your help and take your time. FreshCorp619 (talk) 20:29, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
Nice one!
Thanks man, now the article, the History of Toronto Catholic District School Board could be useful if you find the words "Metropolitan Separate School Board" and "Toronto Catholic District School Board" on the Google Archives finding articles from the Toronto Star, Google News, Google Books, or any other paper would be expandable.
Keep it up! FreshCorp619 (talk) 10:56, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Proper terminology
What's up dude, did you do Midland Collegiate yet I gave you? The Milliken, Ontario article could NEED proper terminology in the Schools section. York, Ontario had the old Board of Education for the City of York as a secular board with the MSSB operated separate schools (i.e., Our Lady of Victory and Santa Maria). North York also has the MSSB schools too.
So to clarify the proper terminology, all schools in Toronto are fully public schools (Secular which is TDSB/CS Viamonde and Separate which is TCDSB/CSDCCS).
Best is best. FreshCorp619 (talk) 02:50, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Widaehan "Gatsby"
Hi, WhisperToMe. I found the (unused) redirect Widaehan "Gatsby" you created back in October 2008. It appears to possibly be a translation of "The Great Gatsby" into Korean. Unless there's a particular reason why the English Wikipedia needs this redirect, I don't see why it should exist as per WP:R#DELETE#8. Strangely, there's doesn't seem to be a Korean interwiki link for the book on Wikidata. I don't know if that's because the article doesn't exist on that wiki or just because it hasn't been linked. Regardless if it's Korean or some other language, I think we should delete the link unless there's a good reason for it. Jason Quinn (talk) 18:22, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Metro Detroit Demographics
Whispher, while I appreciate the effort you've put into this page, there is no other metropolitan or city page that does into as much detail as you've put on the Metro Detroit page in terms of demographics. Quite frankly - especially after looking through the page history - these additions are excessive and overkill, and the data is often from estimates and from previous Censuses. I'd challenge you to go to similar pages and see how they do it. Really, this is getting obsessive and a bit weird, but more to the point it's crowding out the rest of the information in the article. --Criticalthinker (talk) 06:18, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

The article Randy Robinson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails WP:GNG. Protagonist of a film whose bio could simply be included in the parent article. Other unsourced information (such as signature moves) are irrelevant
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Richard BB 12:03, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi WhisperToMe. Thanks for forking off content from Gao Ming (writer) to create this new page, good idea - and impressive expansion, too! I also approve of the change to the title ("lute" really isn't a great translation of "pipa"; having strummed both instruments in my time I can safely say there are some noticeable differences). One minor niggle; as far as I can see, you haven't placed a {{copied}}
template or otherwise indicated that some of the article was created from pre-existing material: would you mind putting something in to comply with Copying within Wikipedia? Cheers, Yunshui 雲水 15:24, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

I wouldn't want you to think that I don't understand where you are coming from. It's often hard to find the happy medium between enforcing the guidelines and being officious; on the other hand, I could name several good editors who left because they didn't think we were coming down hard enough on vandalism. I do try quite hard to be helpful and I really don't mind being picked up on things now and again - it keeps me on my toes. Thanks again for your suggestions. Deb (talk) 16:55, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

I left a message at my Talk Page with fuller answers to your questions. The short answer is that policies you asked about are covered in WP:CITEHOW.
BTW, Wikipedia style: we do not have a section of "References" which lists items which are already in the footnotes. See GENREF, Footnotes and References, Further references.
I also have questions about the WP:NOTABILITY of the article De l'un au multiple: Traductions du chinois vers les langues européenes, which is showing up in a number of other articles where it's certainly not notable. But that's for another time. Cheers, ch (talk) 00:27, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

On 26 December 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Poramadulla Central College, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Sri Lanka Minister of Sports, a graduate of Poramadulla Central College, announced in 2010 that the ministry would develop and upgrade the school's sports facilities? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Poramadulla Central College. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Not much on WP yet about the Beauty-scholar novels, but you seem to be trying to fix that. "" Hi! I found this discussion: User_talk:RJN#Why_are_you_.22freezing_out.22_anything_referring_to_Galveston I know that the name of the metro area has changed. It used to be Houston-Galveston-Brazoria (1990) and later it became Houston-Galveston-Baytown (2000). Now it's officially Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land because the cities of The Woodlands and Sugar Land have grown immensely. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:25, 3 December 2013 (UTC) ""
My reply: Hi ! Actually you are wrong. The OFFICIAL designation by the United States government is the Houston-Galveston area. Please google "H-GAC" or go here learn the truth. BTW, it is NOT that (the near All-White) The Woodlands and Sugar Land areas have "grown" so, it's the fact the census was taken a couple of years after Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston which caused the displacement of more than 10,000 people ! The recovery is well underway and the population in Galveston is returning. LazLong Sr (talk) 05:48, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- I have no idea what LazLong Sr is talking about. "Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, TX" is the official name given in this document, produced just eleven months ago. You can't get more official than that. Nyttend (talk) 01:11, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

My Proposed Film Articles
I saw you took an interest in my suggestion that Wikipedia ought to create entries about a few films and therefore created an article about Invisible Adversaries. Thank you very much! You might be also interested therefore to know that I have already submitted to AfC my drafts of the four remaining films about which Wikipedia still has no articles ([2]; [3]; [4]; [5]) from my original post you saw plus one more draft for another vey important Helma Sanders-Brahms art film ([6]). 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:06, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Meanwhile, I have changed all the German titles of the films into their equivalent English ones in my proposed articles' texts. Could you please also change the entries' names accordingly? Apparently, only registered editors can do so. Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 17:32, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
For your consideration, here's my Gods of the Plague draft: [7]. 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:08, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much for approving that one so quickly! Only one film ([8]) left to go now! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:46, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much for all your invaulable assistance! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 11:47, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
I've made a short edit request at a semi protected page. Would you be kind enough as to approve it? Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 13:46, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
There's an original poster of Wings at that film's entry in the Russian Wikipedia (and what seem like alternative ones here and here). Could you please add one of those to the corresponding English article? Also, I've found what seems to be the original poster of Das zweite Erwachen der Christa Klages here (plus two images which I'm not sure are really posters here and here), what seems to be the original poster of Flügel und Fesseln here, and what seems to be the original poster of Die Berührte here (alternative version here) and would thank you very much if you could add these too. Since I couldn't find original posters for the following films, are the DVD covers of Unsichtbare Gegner (here), Unter dem Pflaster ist der Strand (here), Mein Herz – niemandem! (here), and Das Erdbeben in Chili (here) a legitimate substitute in your opinion? Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 18:38, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you so very much for uploading the Wings poster! Someone else has meanwhile added Unter dem Pflaster ist der Strand's DVD cover to that film's article, so there are now only six left to go... Keep up the good work! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 19:07, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much for uploading all these posters! Now the only thing left to do is to upload the DVD covers of Unsichtbare Gegner (here), Mein Herz – niemandem! (here), and Das Erdbeben in Chili (here). 46.116.250.15 (talk) 10:11, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Any progress regarding the uploading of the three remaining DVD covers? This is 46.116.250.15 here. Please note that my computer changes my IP address from time to time without me asking. 46.116.221.185 (talk) 11:17, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Alternative medicine
Not sure if you're still interested in this page (it's been over a month) but i've left a brief whinge that sums up the major issue. i.e the page currently uses a non-standard definition and because it's an emotive topic it's impossible to get it changed whatever evidence is provided. An FAQ wouldn't be much help as this is really the only issue. The page was in reasonable condition until Nov 2012 and since then some socking attacks have flooded it damage that's proved impossible to revert.Aspheric (talk) 17:25, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

Bosnians in St. Louis
Hi. I was considering making an article about Bosnian-Americans in St. Louis. However, I thought it might be good to include information on Serbs and Croats as well, since there doesn't seem to be enough information for three separate articles. What could that be titled? History of the Balkan peoples in St. Louis? History of the South Slavs in St. Louis? Or would it be best just to include information on Bosnians? I'm not sure how to go about this and thought you might have some ideas. If not, sorry for bothering you. Solar-Wind (talk) 02:23, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Update: There are associations and other organizations for Bosnians, Croats, and Serbs. There is some overlap, but for the most part the organizations are separate. Many of these ex-Yugoslavs in St. Louis came during the 1990s as refugees. There are around 70,000 Bosnians in the city, but I can't find the numbers for Croats and Serbs. The tricky thing is that while many of the immigrants from Bosnia are ethnic Bosnians (Bosniaks/Muslims), some are Bosnian Croats (Catholics) or Bosnian Serbs (Orthodox). So while many are from the country of Bosnia, they may identify with Bosnians as a group or they may identify with their own particular Serb or Croat culture. The identity issue here is complicated, as to be expected with people from the Balkans. Solar-Wind (talk) 12:54, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Affirmative action in China
There is also a history of affirmative action in China for minorities. During the Qing dynasty, there were quotas for Miao, Yao and Muslim minorities on the Imperial examination especially after the 1784 rebellion by Jahriyya Sufi Muslims, (i'm working on the article about the 1781 and 1784 Jahriyya rebellions at User:Rajmaan/1781 Jahriyya Rebellion, Elman's books here are focused on the examination system in China and he is not a specialist on Muslims in China like historians such as J. N. Lipman or M. Dillon, he mischaracterizes the 1784 rebellion as a "Muslim separatist" revolt (it consisted of mainly just sectarian violence with no intention of "secession", like modern day sectarian violence in Iraq, as the sources at User:Rajmaan/1781 Jahriyya Rebellion show.
The articles on Miao Rebellion (1735–36) and Miao Rebellion (1795–1806) already exist so just link them there if you are going to describe the background.
They were also proposed for aboriginals in Taiwan

There is a case in the Taizong Shilu during the Yongle Emperor's reign about Mongol military officers exempted from administrative work because of their illiteracy and still getting paid, so some Chinese pretended to be Mongols to avoid doing work.

These are secondary sources for the illiterate Mongols being exempted from work which you can use in the article as a citation, since the primary source (the statement from the Taizong Shilu) should only be used as a quotation.

Uyghurs in Beijing
The first Uyghur community in Beijing dates to the Qing dynasty starting in the 18th century, when the Uyghur leaders like Emin Khoja of Turfan allied and submitted to the Qing in order to fight against the Dzunghars in the Ten_Great_Campaigns#The_Zunghars_and_pacification_of_Xinjiang_.281755.E2.80.931759.29. The Qing then built a quarter for Uyghur aristocrats in Beijing near the Forbidden City and a community of them sprang up along with their followers.
Note that they weren't called "Uyghurs", because the name "Uyghur" was applied to these people in the 1920s, see Uyghur_people#Origin_of_modern_nationality. In contemporaneous western records in the 19th century, they called them "Turkish" or "Turk" (it was a common western habit to refer to all Turkic speaking peoples as Turkish until they came up with the word "Turkic" which is nowused in modern academia), and scholars today like Millward call them "East Turkestani" or "Altishahri" instead of Uyghur when referring to them before the 20th century, since calling them "Uyghur" would be an anachorism.

Follow-up regarding Giles
Greetings, Since our discussion on Giles I have a feeling that maybe most of the primary biographical sources regarding him are still offline/in Chinese? Apparently his chair in Cambridge was renamed in honour of Joseph Needham in 2008 to Joseph Needham Professorship of Chinese History, Science, and Civilization, the current holder being Roel Sterckx. Maybe Sterckx is the best person to query about the available sources regarding Giles, Other eminent sinologists and he himself (Sterckx is definitely notable enough to deserve a GA/even FA). I am guessing that if we ask Sterckx about the potential biographical sources about him, he will not turn us down? (Which academic will not want to see his own page on the front page of Wikipedia!!) What do you think? Solomon7968 07:46, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, User:Fowler&fowler first suggested me to email Michael Witzel directly for references for the article Wales Professor of Sanskrit. Perhaps if we can ask people like Sterckx or Witzel directly then they may help upload their respective University manuscript collections to Wikimedia Commons. That would be incredible! Solomon7968 08:47, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- P.S. I just emailed Roel Sterckx asking him to point sources about he himself, the Joseph Needham Chair and about Giles. Solomon7968 18:35, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Feedback on Education in Deming
Hello WhisperToMe Your article on Deming education I found very good but you see Deming not only gets students from Columbus but also from Palomas Mexico they get kids there as well. So what I think is that the city administrators are behind the school administrators. So I would like to say that Deming does control the public school system.--BrantDaMerc (talk) 10:25, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Nikkey Shimbun
Sorry, but I've never heard about it. Albeit, it doesn't prevent me from doing a research about it in Brazilian media :) I can tell you if I find something. Cheers, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 03:37, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Well, information on it is somewhat sparse. I could find two reportage on Folha de S. Paulo that mention it:the first stress how São Paulo Shimbun (ja and pt) and Nikkey Shimbun are dealing with the aging of its reader. The other talks about how foreign language newspapers are "surviving" in Brazil. Both are recently (2013), and contain helpful information such as a bit of about the history (the first) and its circulation (the second). I don't know how it helps, but a program Conexão Brasil Japão (Brazil-Japan Connection) interviewed Nikkey Shimbun's president in 2003. You're probably wondering why an interview isn't useful, but the news only reports he will be interviewed but sadly don't contain details about it. I also find two articles on O Estado de S. Paulo: one about Toshihiko Nakabayashi who charged Diário Nippak, Nikkey Shimbun's predecessor, and other about Jornal Nippak, its version in Portuguese language. A Globo Esporte's article asserts it distributes an award for sportspeople. Sorry, but I couldn't find more anything; I tried Editora Abril, Universo Online and Globo.com's publications (which englobes virtually all Brazilian magazines and sites). Other major Brazilian website, Terra Networks, only returns blog entries. I also unsuccessfully tried to search on other nation-wide newspaper listed here. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 04:16, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, I've just remembered to take a look at Folha and Estado's collection databases ([19], [20]), but again nothing. At least, nothing relevant on Folha I had zero response, while Estado led me to the two same news I've already mentioned and an article that mentions on its footer that it was also published in Japanese on São Paulo Shimbun and Nikkey Shimbun due to the relation Banco América do Sul (the reportage focus) has with the Japanese colony in Brazil. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 04:30, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
Japanese international schools
Hi, WhisperToMe. Hm... do you know the names of these schools? I can try but I think a random search for Japanese schools in Brazil would hardly result into something relevant. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 19:24, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I've just researched about "Escola Japonesa de Manaus", and only could find an Universo Online subsite news about it. I've found an article about the São Paulo school. There also minor mentions from other (hardly-notable) sources: [21], [22], [23], [24], [25]. There is some coverage from Jornal Nippak (what a coincidence!): [26], [27], but nothing so useful. I've also came across this sandbox, which can be a better idea rather than an article for each (hardly-notable) school. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 01:46, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- Both Japanese in New York and Paris are very interesting articles, and very well done. São Paulo may worth a similar article since it's the city with the highest number of Japanese in Brazil. Sincerely, I have not too much interest on it, but if you want some help I'm here. In the case you find a source in Portuguese and don't understand it can help, but I hardly can help too much. The article Legendz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No claim of encyclopedic notability is presented. See WP:N. No sources are cited. See WP:RS and WP:V. This article appears to rely heavily on original research which is not admissible on Wikipedia. Requests
The request page in the Portuguese Wikipedia is this. It is divided by topics. For the school, Education is the right place. Japanese in São Paulo maybe fit on Brazil or International relations topic. The newspaper is more difficult to fit into some topic there; maybe Brazil is the more suitable, but there is also "Other" where it can fit. Cheers, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 18:04, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Merge
I am thinking that we should merge Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexican-Americans and Wikipedia:WikiProject Latinos. I have no idea how this works, and since both are fairly inactive (i removed the inactive tags for my editing, but it would be nice to have more people to consider them truly active), I dont know if its worth bothering. If we did, i think the best name would be Wikipedia:WikiProject Hispanic and Latino Americans, and it would be a subproject of Wikipedia:Wikiproject United States, as MEXAM is now. I dont know if we could create the MEXAM as a task force/subproject of WikiProject Hispanic and Latino Americans itself. Since you have done some editing in these areas, any thoughts? you can respond here, i will watch your page.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:12, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

- Brand new magazine, too young to have become notable yet. No independent sources, except one (which is more about a restaurant critic than about the new magazine). Does not meet WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Randykitty (talk) 16:55, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Requested academic book article?
Hello again WTM, do you have access to JSTOR? If yes, do you take requests for academic book articles? Solomon7968 05:44, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Re from my talk: I was referring to Harvard Oriental Series (new article). Most of the volumes are translation of Sanskrit/Pali works, but some of them are original monographs. There should be Wikipedia article for all of the original monographs. (I just listed all the available book reviews for A Vedic Concordance (HOS 10); but don't have access to JSTOR, so can't create the article.) Solomon7968 06:15, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Re: Hmm, I would have dropped a Wikipedia:RX request if it were one/two reviews. Asking 6 (or more) reviews for each of the 73 volumes is annoying! Solomon7968 06:27, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Sources about Arab and African immigrant groups to Paris
Salut!
I've started articles on the Chinese in Paris and the Japanese in Paris but I've had trouble finding sources in English about the Arab and African groups in your city. Do you know of any good French sources about them?
Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 14:26, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I have no information about that. I can only say that there are some chinese in Paris, specially near large shops such as Galeries Lafayette or Printemps. I see them every day. Good for business. Some japanese. And russians. But there are too much arab and african people who lived in Paris. Yes, one century ago, France occupied their countries. It was colonization. But they are free since 60 years and they are unable to manage themselves. Most of their countries are dictature where a few people keep all the money. So they went to France, their former colonizator. Do you know that in France, socialist government started the AME Aide Médicale d'Etat (=governemental medical care). Every stranger in France, including those without any passport is freely cared. Soon, they will be the only people in France who can care. I am in despair... --Tangopaso (talk) 19:37, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Sorry, but I am not interested by this subject. And it is a very sensitive one, because some people think that there are too much strangers in France. Other one that strangers people in France make France lucky. It will not be easy to find objective and neutral documents in France about that.--Tangopaso (talk) 16:08, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. After our brief chat at Wikiproject China I ran my magic Wiki wand over the above. Hopefully the edits/comments will give you some useful pointers on China centric articles like this for future reference. If you haven't already it's also worth reading the Chinese style guide and its associated naming conventions. BTW, have you considered archiving your talk page? its huge! Hello WhisperToMe!! About Louisiana Creoles in Houston, TX
I hope I'm doing this right!!! If not I apologize. The info I submitted about Our Mother Of Mercy is what my family experienced. Also, it appears that http://www.waseda-shibuya.edu.sg/file/Waseda_Shibuya_Brochure.pdf is directed to the 2014 brochure, while the "Archive" link links to the 2013 one, though it is an archive. Hi, I noticed that you had done some editing on the page for Stellar Airlines, which claims to be a Congolese airline. I couldn't find any active links confirming that this is actually an airline. Question
Hello. I am going through the schools and the districts in Kansas on Wikipedia and came across Unified School District No. 365. I was wondering what your thoughts were on moving it to Garnett USD 365 to match other school district articles in Kansas here on Wikipedia? Most of the district articles on here have the USD # on here and thought it would be more recognizable. I plan to add an infobox and expand it a little more. Hope to hear you thoughts on it! Koreans / Metro Detroit
Thank you for requesting/creating those articles on the school district! I appreciate it, excellent idea.
On an unrelated note, I noticed that you created this category (Category:Ethnic groups in Metro Detroit) and I had previously created this category (Category:Ethnic groups in Detroit, Michigan). Should one be merged into the other? Thanks.
One more thing. I saw that your article on Ethnic groups in Houston includes a section on ethnoreligious groups. Since Copts and Sikhs are both ethnoreligious groups, would it be a good idea for you to mention them in that section? Just a suggestion. Solar-Wind (talk) 23:12, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride
Hi Whisper. Thanks for creating the article about LGBT culture in Houston. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for Houston, along with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 15:23, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your suggestions. I went ahead and created the following page: Wikipedia:Meetup/Houston/Wiki Loves Pride 2014. I added the community center. Please feel free to add your name to the list of participants if you are interested in contributing to this campaign and/or add other articles needing to be created or improved. Perhaps someone will propose a time and location to meet for a Wikipedia meetup. My goal is to work on articles remotely and upload images related to the LGBT community in Houston. Feel free to spread the word about this project! Thanks again, --Another Believer (Talk) 15:54, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Cajuns and Creoles in Texas
Hello again. I have noticed that there are a number of Cajun and Creole people in Texas, including in the Houston area. I was wondering if creating an article on them would be a good idea? Given the cultural similarities should there be one article for both Cajuns and Creoles or given the differences should there be two? I was considering creating the article(s) myself, unless you would be interested in doing it. If an article or two are to be created, I'll leave it up to you who should do it. Of course, I could start one and you could contribute to it. Thanks. Solar-Wind (talk) 13:43, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response, it was helpful. There seem to be enough sources for an article on Cajuns in Texas, but there are fewer sources on Creoles. So, I think for now it would be best to focus on the Cajuns. Hopefully, I can begin working on an article about them sometime within the next few days. Solar-Wind (talk) 14:17, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

At the moment I don't have an interest in doing so, mostly because I am not able to find a lot of resources that tell me anything new. It is still very general information and mostly about the businesses that are there, and not about the people themselves.Keizers (talk) 16:17, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

I happen to be in Monterrey right now to present on Wikipedia at the main campus of Tec de Monterrey. However, it is not common to be here. I generally am in the center of the country, sometimes west, like Guadalajara. Last time I was here I took a bunch of photos but I doubt Ill have a chance this time.Thelmadatter (talk) 22:36, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

Problematic sources in good articles.
Hi, Whisper. Since you're concerned with how the use of problematic sources may impact an article's "good article" status, I though you maybe interested in a discussion I'm trying to establish in the subject-related, (currently) featured article Hispanics in the United States Marine Corps. It needs some work on its sources. Any help is welcome. --damiens.rf 18:18, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
The article Colegio Monteverde has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No mention of the Cancun or Santiago colleges in their city articles, so no justification for dab page entries, so no need for dab page.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PamD 19:05, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

For your excellent work on multiple ethnicity-related articles! It's wonderful! Articles like that (e.g. Japanese community of São Paulo, Maghrebian community of Paris) are very interesting! And, maybe they can be good ways to show people diversity. I hope they can make people become less intolerant. :) Haha maybe I'm a dreamer... Anyway, it's delightful to see your work on it. My best regards. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 20:00, 4 June 2014 (UTC) |

The school page is about the history of the school. I can summarize it. The school had been established as a girls' junior high school (6-8 grades) in 1961-1962 (Levent Kız Ortaokulu, where Levent is the name of the neighborhood) After a new building was built the classrooms were transferred to the new building during the winter vacation of 1968 and the status of the school was redefined as the high school (Levent Lisesi). The name of the school was further changed to Etiler Lisesi in 1981. I hope this helps. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 17:53, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Japanese in Ohio: if I remember rightly, Japanese is one of the foreign language options at Benjamin Logan High School, which I would have attended had I not been home schooled all the way through.
Chinese: can you muddle your way through a little Chinese? The image I linked in the discussion, File:Honda in Washington Township.jpg, appears in the Chinese suburb article, zh:郊區. I asked for help at their Help Desk, zh:维基百科:互助客栈/求助, but my original English doesn't seem to have helped, and the Google Translate attempt at Chinese doesn't seem to have been understandable, because nobody's been able to help. Weird redirects
You've recently created a whole load of weird, malformed redirects. This doesn't seem typical of you - is someone else using your ID? Deb (talk) 08:47, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- "Plausible" obviously doesn't mean the same to me as it does to you. :-) I wouldn't consider a misspelling to be material for a redirect just because it appeared on one menu. I would be looking for examples of that misspelling occurring in an article, or for there already being a link pointing to that spelling. I don't think most of these new ones fall into the category of "likely misspellings". But I'll leave them. Deb (talk) 09:28, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to João Urbano Pessoa de Vasconcelos Suassuna may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Arabic Wikipedia and Rami Tarawneh
Mr. Tarawneh is definitely influential in the Arabic Wikipedia and he was and still is a positive influence to its growth. I truly believe Mr. Tarawneh thinks he is the pioneer in promoting its inception. However, my research into the history of the Arabic Wikipedia have documented proves that there was a group from ArabEyes who volunteered their work to take a leadership role in managing the Arabic Wikipedia long before him. I have provided these sources in the article. Many old timers in the Arabic Wikipedia, whom I have approached, confirmed my findings.
Few days after I presented my findings to the Arabic Wikipedia community, Mr. Tarawneh approached me claiming he was the actual pioneer and that the ArabEyes volunteers were insignificant. Obviously, I asked for any validations to this claim. He could not provide any reliable proof except for an anonymous message from a person requesting assistance to work on the Wikipedia. There is no indication that that person have asked for any leadership role. Mr Tarawneh claims that he was that anonymous person. To me, this is not a reliable claim especially that other documents proves otherwise. The article on Wired was published two weeks after Mr. Trawneh approached me. In the article, Mr. Tarawneh himself claims he was the pioneer and there is no indication that author of the article did any validation. To me, this is not a reliable source I would use to contradict the reliable evidence I have.
The other information I have omitted from the Wikipedia article was the information about the security services which is irrelevant to the topic of the article.
As I have said earlier, Mr. Tarawnah has a lot of deeds to be proud of contributing to the growth of the Arabic Wikipedia. But being the pioneer it is not one of them. I hope this clarifies why I made the changes. --AboluayTalk2me 01:44, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
