King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh was established by a royal decree in May 1983. With a bed capacity of 690 beds, it provides all types of care to all National Guard soldiers and their families, starting from primary health care up to tertiary specialized care. Today, It became a recognized center on the international level in Conjoined twins separation surgery. It is the first center all over the world with 100% successful rate in twins separation surgery.[1]
Recentely, King Fahad National Guard Hospital with many other medical centers has been united to be part of the King Abdulaziz Medical City. Since its inauguration in February 2001; and within a short period, KAMC has been recognized as a distinguished healthcare provider.
The Emergency Care Center at KAMC continues to be the best Trauma Care Center in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is ranked as the 4th Emergency Care Center outside the United States of America, to provide (PHTLS) Pre-Hospital Trauma and Life Support program. Ambulatory Care Services and Primary Health Care Services provide Preventive Health Services including health education and behavioral modifications to adopt healthy lifestyles. Surgical and Critical Units include a Burn Unit, Surgical ICU, Endoscopy Unit, Operating Rooms, and Neuro-Surgical and Surgical Units.
The Neurological Rehabilitation Unit for Handicapped was inaugurated in mid 2003. In addition to that in September 2004 there has been an expansion and renovation of the Rehabilitation Department with both occupational and physiotherapy units along with the IVF clinic and OB in 2003, and Medical Imaging, Laboratory, Pharmacy, and continuous renovation of patients’ wards.
NGHA has passed the requirements for accreditation under the (JCI) Joint Commission International standards with excellent performance in December 2006. This accreditation included all of NGHA hospitals, namely King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah, Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Hospital in Dammam and King Abdulaziz Hospital in Al-Ahsa.
In 2004 NGHA established the College of Medicine and the College of Nursing and Allied Medical Sciences. NGHA added to its mission an academic dimension through the establishment of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences which will comprise all academic activities and will be the core of the medical scientific university for future generations.
The facility includes Cardiac and Liver Center; 21 bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU); Dental, Ambulatory (Outpatient) Care, Long Term Care/ Rehabilitation, Emergency Care and Trauma Centers. Other adult and pediatric services provided include: Surgical and Medical wards, Obstetrics and Gynecology (Labor and Delivery, Oncology, Antenatal and Post Partum wards); Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU, Operating Rooms, Ambulatory Care Center, Home Health Care Program, VIP Wards, Royal Suite, College of Medicine and Nursing College.
