a P-51 Mustang air racer flown by Jimmy Leeward. It was a highly modified former military plane that had only just come out of retirement and undergone major modifications, including shortening of the wings and appendages in addition to other major modifications that the owner describes as designed to make the plane more efficient.

On September 16th, 2011 the The Galloping Ghost aircraft was said to have lost control and crashed into the spectators, at the Reno Air Races, at Staid Field north of Reno Nevada. [1]
